Help with a frame ID

Not my first time posting this, but will give it another go. My brother in law gave this to me. His story is the he CL'd it in Eugene, OR for $40. Has ghosts of Viner stickers and a Columbus sticker. Gray metal flake paint but some evidence of orange paint under it. Chromed steerer tube, but painted over, no stamps or identifying markings. English BB, nothing stamped on the drops F or R, Campy bb cable guides, brazed on top tube cable guides that seem crooked. Only a 6 or 9 stamped on bottom of BB. ID of seat tube is 27.2, nice lugs with cutouts, 700c. I don't buy that it's a Viner, or that it's Italian. Maybe someone's custom build? Would love anyone's take on it. Came built up with a melange of japanese parts as a grocery getter.

I agree, it's not a Viner. Almost no details look right. The combo of lug cutouts and drain holes might clue off someone-- there's a drain hole thread here:

Truth be told, it DOES look like some cheap (tre-tubi) Viners that I remember from my bike biz daze. And IIRC, they came with English-thread bb's. Definitely has that "70's-80's cheap Italian" vibe going on.

Could be the winner^ I don't know much about tre-tubi Viners, but if they did come with BSC BB shells, then the rest of the package (slotted BB shell, "popular" windowed lugs, what look to be GPM dropouts, crimped stay caps, 27.2 seat post) sure could point to a tre-tubi with Falck everything-else. No rifling in the steerer base, right? If the paint is truly original, then the decal ghost may be trustworthy...could be something Viner had contract-built and slapped their name on, but maybe something else, entirely. I'd guess a 'real' Viner (more expensive model) would have their 'star' in the BB shell and elsewhere, but the 27.2 seat post sure points to something with at least that seat tube Columbus or Reynolds.

recall building up a couple machines in the eighties from viner framesets that had been imported to the u.s. by gus betat of new orleans. this certainly looks like it could well be a viner. vincenzo nerozzi of pistoia.

perhaps someone has access to betat catalogue materials from this time...
