The handlebar bottles are also known to get ejected at the most inopportune times.

They are very hard to find, ebay is your best bet.

i have a late 70s Minoura mount with a Salsa stainless cage attached (replacing a vintage Jim Blackburn aluminum model I sadly vibrated to death last year) on the '78 Competition GS. It just works. Never yet spit out a bottle, even on a dirt road ride. I intend to do every vintage event I can while using it. There is a little change in the handling when it's full, but not enough to matter for me yet.

Yes I used to have a pair behind my seat clamped to the seat post, as my old Raleigh sports does not have the braze on for down tube fitting but they used to pop out, so I went for a single version "clamp on" on the handlebar but it looked wrong, & weight in wrong place so now I've a light weight holder cable tied down by the front DR.
