The 2 that got away

I knew it was too good to be true; I won a bid on Tues. on Craigslist for 2 Raleigh Tourists($200), a men's and womens, missing both chain cases, a pump on one, and fenders on on the other. They looked to be in good condition from the pictures. There was a bid before mine for $150. The ad wasn't removed as of 2 am this morning but I figured it was because he didn't have cash in hand. I was supposed to pick them up today and the seller sent me a message saying that he had decided not to sell them. 

So everyone, I am looking for 2 Tourists, and they don't need to be in pristine condition.

HATE when that happens.

I would always make an offer in person if possible. Harder for the seller to say no to cash, it's straightforward, quick and done. That thing about a bird in the hand is so true.

Bikes: See the signature....

I hate that Craigslist has become a local form of Ebay. If I want to "bid" on something, I'll got to Ebay. If I want to find a decent local deal, and haggle like the good 'ole days, I'll search Craigslist.

I think what I hate the most is the fact that he accepted my offer and then reneged. Call me old fashioned and naive but that's a crappy thing to do. If he sold to someone else, he could have at least asked me if I wanted to offer more. And if he truly is keeping them for himself I hope he at least rides them and enjoys them and they don't go back in the shed for another 25 years!

It's definitely crappy but sadly, it is often the name of the game on craigslist. I think it has a lot to do with relative anonymity.

Last week I saw a couple nice schwinn beaters on craigslist for 15$ a piece, which was perfect for me as I don't want to spend much on a beater/project. By the time the guy got back to me he had sold them to someone else, whom he gave my phone number to. The guy had the nerve to call me and ask 100$ a piece.
