Is This A PX-10?

I need to ID or at least confirm whether this bike is a PX-10 or not. I assumed it was due to geometry, 531, mafac racer centerpulls, chrome dropouts, 531 forks. What is throwing me a curve is the chrome dork disc. What do y'all think? Sorry about the terrible pics, my buddy took them. :)

The cranks don't look right, but maybe a later model than mine. Some came with tubulars, so the wheelset may have been changed. Chrome socks at the stays look right.

It looks like it to me but I'm no PX-10 expert. Maybe someone added the dork disk?

The crankset is a stronglight. I thought this was one of the specs. Peugeots are complicated.

nlerner 07-06-14 08:42 PM

The cranks on the one you show are Stronglight 99 (86 bcd). The one above and what I thought was standard on the PX10 is a mod 93 (122 bcd).

what else would it be with 531 frameset and chromed rear stays?

decals say '74-'79.

dddd 07-06-14 08:45 PM

It's one of the Thevenet-era PX10's with the cat-quick, steep frame angles. Not for cruising but more of a criterium racing bike. Expect the handling to be twitchy.

The rear rim and disc aren't original.

Actually the dork disk could be per this 1978 catalog.

Black PX-10s are much less common than white; cool find.

eschlwc 07-07-14 12:33 AM

oh, wait. the cycles peugeot page says ...

"Braze ons: With the exception of a rear derailleur cable stop and a small tab under the down tube a PX10 should have NO braze ons."

looks like that bike has both front and rear fork brazes.

edit: i'm confused about this trait, 'cause even the models on that web page have fork brazes.

That applies to earlier models prior to mid 1970's.

eschlwc 07-07-14 01:43 AM

^ i always thought that was weird. why top tube brazes only on lower models? moto did this too. maybe just a reynolds thing?

Very interesting. I rode the bike a mile or two when I refurbed it for him 2yrs ago. The headtube angle resembles my Cannondale Criterium. The wheels are Weinmann concaves. Here is the kicker: my friend bought an apt house and this bike was in the basement for who knows how long. The rear wheel had a severe whoopdie that rendered it unrideable. He doesnt know anything about bikes and is rideable only by my encouraging him to ride with me (he wont). He is wanting to clear it out of the garage so I needed to hear from the members if it really is a PX-10....Peugeot being on the complicated side.

Thanx for the discussion, I'm learning!

Bingo. That's the bike. The component dates show '77 so this is most likely the bike.

rootboy 07-07-14 04:10 AM

So, are you getting it**********

These are no braze-ons but part of the drop out forgings.
VeloBase.com - View Single Frame Part
(^ shown above are earlier drop out forgings. Basically the same)

Hubs, crank arms and Lyotard pedals.

It's too big for me. I ride a 54 and this is a 23", just enough to make me feel high-centered in corners. Besides, now that he knows what it is I wont have the cash for it.

Crank arms on the back near the size number and pedals on the spindle housing similar to hubs. That's if I recall correctly.

eschlwc 07-07-14 06:54 AM

^ negative on both for me. its decals fall in the '70-'74 range, a couple years older than yours.

'75-'79

^ that's what i thought too, but the cycles peugeot page said '74-'79.
