It looks to be of some quality at least, just looking at the picture. Do they have any kind of comfort guarantee though. I sometimes look at other brands, but almost always end up back at Brooks. Vintage, used, or new. It doesn't matter to me as long as it's in good condition.,,,,BD

No experience, shape is off It needs to have soft contours, no ledges.

I'm just about willing to give the Brooks Conquest a try since I have narrow IT'S.

I wonder if there are several leather saddle makers in Taiwan or only one. It seems there are a lot of importer names on these saddles. They're not getting very good reviews. I say buy a Brooks or an RHM saddle.

Is Gyes Saddles a Taiwan company or do they advertised their saddles as being Taiwan made? I see what looks to be importers, who may or may not be located in Taiwan, but I don't really see this saddle, or any saddles, indicating the manufacturer.

You're already in for $65 with that one. May as well go the rest of the way and get the real deal.

I've never been fortunate to ride a Brooks, or any other leather saddle, to see if I actually like them. I hadn't really decided on this one either, just wanted to see if anyone had some first hand experience with them.

I don't know. It is made of "real cow leather", as opposed to leather from fake cows.

But this one is a beauty. Gorgeous. My favorite saddle.

There are some Indian-made saddles on the market that are covered in Buffalo hide. In my experience, buffalo hide is too hard to make a comfortable saddle, but some people like them.

hey, @uncle uncle,

i ride on brooks saddles, but after reading a rave review on one of the other sub-forums, i ordered a nidd saddle from spa cycles.

SPA CYCLES Nidd Leather Saddle :: £35.00 :: PARTS & ACCESSORIES :: Saddles - Leather :: Spa Cycles, Harrogate - The touring cyclists specialist.

i got it today and am very pleased. it was $20 less than a new brooks on ebay even after the exchange rate and shipping half way around the world. it became even more economical with the carradice bag (shown) i also bought that was quite inexpensive.

i'll know much more in a month or so. but, so far, so great.

I can't put my finger on exactly why, but the leather used on that "Vintage Fixie Road Bike Bicycle Leather Seat Saddle" looks to be thinner and more flexy, which would explain why the nose rivets are further back, and the saddle comes pre-tied. It's very possible that the saddle would be nice and compliant, but not last as long before it stretches apart.

I could be wrong about all of that, though.

I don't think the saddle linked in the first post is from Gyes (source of both the Velo Orange and Spa Cycles saddles) because I don't see an 8-digit stamp on the underside, the rivets look a little smaller, and there's another, very similar saddle listed on the same site that shows an adjuster bolt with a flat head where Gyes bolts require an allen wrench.

Here's an example what the serial from a Gyes-produced saddle looks like:

I've been more than pleased with my Brooks Cambium.

I got a B17 for my birthday, I love it! The saddles I'd previously ridden were really good, but the B17 was so much more supportive and it's so classic looking. I've been riding it and switching between bikes- and then a couple months later I came into some money and got a Cambium. I didn't realize I'd be more comfortable on another saddle than the B17- it is really THAT good. With those two Brooks saddles, I've effectively retired my old favorite saddles.

i love it and would recommend it to those that like a more firm leather saddle. its skirts are already laced, which helps it stay firm.

i later bought a gyes gs-17 on ebay to discover it and the nidd saddle are exactly the same with different branding. if i ever need another leather saddle, i'll be buying a gyes gs-17.

the only drawback of these two is the weight. i think they're even heavier than a brooks.

I'm naive. But when does weight really matter in this case

An "order" of difference in weight and that makes a difference? Hmmmmmmm. I just thought that it meant pounds of difference.
