Fender sources?
When working on a vintage bike, do you look for vintage fenders? If so, where do you source them? If you buy new, what manufacturers do you use? I love the look of Velo Orange, but I'm not sure if they would look too out of place on an older bike.

I really like the Gilles Berthoud stainless steel fenders. They come in various sizes and width, and look perfect on vintage bikes IMHO.

You can put newer fenders on C&V bikes and look good. Colour choice is important, most older bikes came with white, chrome, silver or frame colored. The new black poly fenders work great but don't look as compatible. I like some of the Velo fenders, especially the hammered metal ones.

Today's metal fenders look much like yesterday's - there hasn't been a lot of technological advancement in that department - and you can always take a hammer to them for some "distressing".

Plastic has been around a long time too .. these are aluminum foil core, so metallic looking and conducts electricity,
but of a non brittle plastic type wont dent or crack (unless sub 0C) from metal fatigue.

I'm more of a form-follows-function kind of guy, so I just use what I can get at a reasonable price, which is usually something fairly new. The plastic Planet Bike fenders get good reviews, and they look fine to me. I have SKS Chromoplastic fenders on my Bianchi, and they work well and look nice. You can get Bluemels on ebay, but you'll pay a lot. The fancy ones, such as Velo-Orange, look really nice, and I can understand why someone would pay extra for them.
