The Red Star is not the mark of the Red Squirrel? My young at the time kids thought so, but they were of the Penguins of Madagascar generation.

We found that a person cannot have two icons on their name. I had a red star, a Sheldon, and the admin stars. With each addition, the latter was kicked out.
If you stop your upgrade, your Sheldon will appear.

I've enjoyed reading through this thread....and I might add that it seems very appropriate that it's in the Classic and Vintage subforum that a genuine classic and vintage discussion of bikeforums.net has taken place.
I have really enjoyed bikeforums over the years, thanks to all involved for making it happen.

Yes, I thank you all, too. The arguments for and against paying for membership have merits. Given that most revenue probably comes from advertisements, it's odd for us to pay, but I'm happy to because of the value I get out of it. If you don't want to help a commercial operation which can survive fine without the membership fees, then it makes sense not to pay.

This was a nice BF history thread. I enjoyed reading through it. MANY THANKS to Joe, Siu, Tom Stormcrowe (RIP) and all of the other moderators for a nicely run forum.

That's a pity. It would be nice if at least the Sheldons would stay, as they were truly earned with good work. Is there a way I can propose a Change Request?

I'm sorry about the Sheldon's but it's not the same as an upgraded account and if we dont' see the yellow jersey then it does not inform us of who has the upgraded privileges, such as posting things for sale.

Red star is back when Joe had the site and it was $25 for 52 years. It fed Joe burritos. (that's what it said in his sig, to buy him burritos LOL)
Sheldon wings are like the helmet that Sheldon wore, and it had wings on it. Those were granted to people who have done good volunteer things for cycling. Things like starting out or maintaining trails, running bike giveaways to kids who are less fortunate, organizing and petitioning for bike lanes, running safety workshops, etc.
Yellow Jersey means that you upgraded your account and you have a larger avatar, bigger post window, can post in sales, etc.
Blue star means that this person is a moderator who helps out on the site.
Three Blue stars means admin, the people who lead the moderators.
I am head admin and all the blue star people help me out.

Yeah, I found this place while I was unable to work due to spine surgery and wanting to eventually get back on a bike. Seems like all cycling related internet searches lead to this site. I joined and continue to hang around here due to the excellent moderation and vast knowledge of the people in here. Thanks all, and Merry Christmas!
