anyone heard of a bike called Penworld

from Belgium. Back in the 12th century, my friend up the street had a Penworld and I had a Puch and the racing and training was on. We were 15 years old and I always slobbered over that bike. It has some Campy Grand Sport, some Gip. and Suntour parts on the thing. I have no knowledge of what kind of tubing it was, the only was the Made in Belgium sticker and Penworld on the down tube. It had to be from the late mid to late 70s since he bought it used. It even had those clamp on cable guides (so did mine). The very next year, we got out USCF lic and started racing. It lasted two seasons until he crashed it in our training ride ( The wed night Griffith Park ride, for those local or use to live in socal) This was the mid 80s.

Hmmm. from the 1170's, I say an oak or perhaps pine tubeset. And yes, I'd say your friend bought it VERY used! The Campy gruppo was probably not period correct; much les the SunTour stuff.

Pics would be helpful, here

Not A campy group set, but bits and pieces of them were Grand Sport. I know that Grand Sport was available in the 70s because I had a seat post and some other bits I purchased in the mid 80s. I know the Suntour isn't period correct, but it was available in the early 80s. I think it has a Cyclone FD and RD and shifters, of course Cinelli bars, stem, and saddle. Pics? He throw it out a long time ago.

I bet it was Beech since it was readily available through northern Europe.

I wasn't aware of bicycles, Campagnolo, Suntour or Southern California being available in the 12th century...

I know of the "Pen Island" website. It used to be a really nice, serene website where you could order pens. It's not that anymore. I would strongly, very very strongly encourage you to NOT go there.

It's not what it used to be. It now redirects to peniisland (with two i's) and it's a parked domain, with useless links elsewhere.

Ahhh, back in the day when Pen Island sold pens, and people were outraged by the Bonsai Kitty and Save Toby websites.
