peugeuot px-10 3 speed?

I have a decent px-10 that I found at a garage sale last year. I think I gave $5 for it. I didnt know what it was at the time,just that it was my size. I havent done anything with it due to someone put the wrong stem in the steertube and now it is hoplessly and forever stuck.
Today I found a sturmey archer aw 3 speed hub in good condition and I would like to build it to use in this frame.most of my riding around town is flat,and I only use one or two gears anyway,and I was thinking singlespeed for simplicity,but after finding this hub,any good reason not to do it?
the bike has the original stronglite cranks and headset,a campy bottom bracket,and nothing else at this point. someone swaped the mafacs for dia comps and the derailliuers were cheap shimano units,so there gone now.
since I am a big guy,and this is a lightweight frame,would it hold up to casual riding? mostly rail trail and to the grocery store,etc. thanks

It should work out OK for you. Check Sheldon Brown's website; if I recall correctly, he has a "PX-3," and perhaps a "PX-7," as well. Whatever you do, don't saw off the derailleur hanger!

I thought I had seen this idea before but couldnt remember where.. should make a sweet and fairly uniqur ride. as far as the hanger goes,I was worried about that,in case I ever wanted to switch back,but I think its buggered up when they installed the shimano derailleur. dont they have different threads? although it could probably be repaired.

I don't know how big you are. I am 6' 2" 180 and have never had any problems with my PXs. The 73 takes some pretty hard riding.
The hanger was probably tapped out for a standard rear mech; a Simplex hanger has no threads, but can be tapped out and filed at the bottom to accept a regular derailleur.

how big? 6'2" 330. I have been having good luck with my cheap haro hybrid and now my lugged miyata mtb. I guess I could still do it and only worry about it after something happens to it.it was only 5 bucks and the trail is definatly a leisurly pace.
the hanger is threaded so its been modified already.I'll just leave it alone...just in case.
