I tend to fall somewhere in the 2500 mile per year mark. probably will again in 20115. 2014 was only about 1500 miles.

Missing two months of summer riding healing from a crash will do that.

I went with "Get real..." I would like to get out for 20-30km/day with a 40-50km on the weekend. But I don't go if it is raining and sometimes the pub is a more attractive option. :) I will try harder this year.

My plans never work out as I planned them. Why should 2015 be any different?

I think the local rando clubs must have been listening to me complain. The formerly nearest one had the first 200k in March, for several years in a row. Now the Detroit one is opening their season in May (Yayy!), so I actually have a possibility of getting pedal-fit for that. I mainly have to pedal indoors starting 1/2 hour a day for something like 2 weeks, increasing power as I feel it. But if I can hit the real road by late March after a few months of indoor or spinning and do a metric in April, I can probably do the 200k.

My work travel (new job!) has kept me out of the saddle so badly this fall, that I'm starting from scratch right now, unfortunately.

Haven't done set mileages in the last couple of years (since the wife's death), so my plans for 2015 is to ride as much as I can. And not worry about how much that totals. It worked for me in '13 and '14, should still keep me in shape next year, too.

Over the past two years, I've spent way more time on vintage IGH roadsters than derailleur road bikes. Have cut the personal collection down to eight derailleur bikes (my brifter bikes are long gone, the newest tech I'm riding anymore is six speed indexed with downtube shifters, everything steel except for one folder), four folders and four roadsters.

In 2014 I planned (resolution-wise) to ride 5000 miles and work out 6 hours a week. As of today, with the sun having set, I rode 6152 miles and have worked out 421 hours (zone 2 stuff or higher). The hours thing just tries to factor in my skiing time. My first full year with a smartphone app to track my actual mileage, so the number is for real. I count my indoor cycling time at a conservative 15mph. Overall, a good year in the saddle and looking forward to 2015.

Next year I'll again plan to ride 5000, and hope I can find time for more.

Happy New Year!!!

I'm graduating my little one from the seat on the back of the Grand Prix to a trail a bike. She'll be 4 this year and hope she can handle it, at least for a few miles. Most of my riding this year was done with her in the seat.

Thanks Robbie...working on it...

I went with the last option. This is the first year I haven't kept track of my mileage, and my mileage is way down as a result. Tomorrow I'll begin anew, keeping track, and hope to get in 8000 km. And if I could just stay off the damn computer, I could keep up with my wrenching projects as well. The price we pay for having the world at our fingertips.

I'm a dreamer, but I've become more of a pragmatist. I chose number four.

A couple years ago I was planning to qualify for PBP. lol.

RobbieTunes 12-31-14 06:08 PM

I didn't plan much for 2014, wasn't sure I'd be on a bike or in a box.

So, this year, my only plans:

Jan 1: Metric Century (ADA Resolution Ride)

May 14: Storming of Thunder Ridge (full century)

Aug 8: Dairyland Dare (ride there, then 150K, even hundred miles)

Nov 8: Marine Corps Marathon, 35 years after I ran it for the first time.

Whatever comes in between, well, whatever, I'll take what I can get.

I plan to cut down the number of bikes I own to 18 I actually ride, and N+1, the +1 will be a really cool Italian. I resolve to read 3 books on cycling, increase my average speed at least 3 mph. I resolve to track and ride 3,000 miles.

ThermionicScott 12-31-14 07:42 PM

2014 was a lackluster year for riding, in my case. Even though I had goals like riding a full SR series and totalling 5,000 miles, I let a lot of things completely derail them. So I'm thinking that more specific goals like riding at least 100 miles each week, bike-commuting at least 125 times, and committing to that brevet series in 2015 (I'll have to if I'm going to ride PBP!) will help keep me on track. It's not just about being a nerd and making the numbers do what I want them to, I am much happier and healthier when I ride regularly.

What is this "plan" of which you speak? We do have such things on my planet.

Gravel, mud, country roads, fire roads, mountains, boulders in Moab, going to work, ride around Lake Superior, you name it.

I can do it.

You're never going to end up being the lanterne rouge on a brevet if you do that many miles. That's impressive mileage for MN, :thumb:

I can categorically state that when you ride indoors, a conservative speed would be 0mph. :)

But that got me to thinking. My new 2015 plan is to purchase a mcmansion and put in a velodrome on the outside walls of the basement. A complete egregious use of money, but my new goal nonetheless. Just think of the hour record possibilities. :thumb:

Good news for gravel fans. The Almanzo is back on and will be sponsored by the Spring Valley Board of Tourism.

Excellent!!

Edited to add link to registration details (it seems like you could just show up, but you probably want to register so they know numbers and possibly the finishing order/time)

I'm retiring in just three months (April 3 is my last day!), and I'm already looking forward to more riding time, although the extensive bike commuting I did since last spring certainly piled on the miles. The steep 400-ft climb at the end of the 18-mile commute to get home adds to the fitness, too.

My wife and I have already agreed to ride the Seattle-to-Portland 200-miler again with my son, his wife and her father, so that will certainly encourage plenty of rides. I've done the STP 4 times, my wife about 8, and we started dating right after our last one-day version in 1996. We wouldn't do it again, but this will be a great reason to spend lots of our sort of quality time with them.
