84 trek 620 paint ?

hullo there
juist got an 84 trek 620. I am cleaning it up for some warmer weather to come. Paint on this classic is pretty good, but a couple of mouse bites and chain slaps need a speck of touch up. Anybody out there know which testors or nail polish work best for the gray/pewter color that trek used then? thanks and tailwinds!

Bikes: A few BSO's.

I don't know the answer but it could be a tough match. I have a '81 710 with that paint color and I was admiring it in the sun today. It has a lot of metal flake if that is the correct term and you may not find anything but "plain" paint for a match. Better than nothing. I will also see if anyone has an answer.

I always mix my own from a handful of Testors paints. I rarely/never get a good match straight from one bottle.

1) Remove Fork

2) Take Fork to Walgreens

3) Ask for help matching at the nail polish counter

4) Win

Walgreens isn't going to have much of a selection of charcoal grey nail polish....

Take the bike into an auto parts store that sells automotive touch up paint. You'll find lots of choices.

There are several brands - get one with a built in paint brush in the cap. Use multiple thin layers for best results. Let dry a few days between applications. After a month or so you can rub out the touch up with some rubbing compound or car polish.

Remember, your doing camouflage not a concours repaint. It just has to pass the 5 foot test - no one will noticed the touch up work from 5 or 10 feet unless they're OCD!
