First road bike; 1975 Shwinn World Traveler

Hey guys, this is my first time posting due to being a new founder to road biking, I recently purchased a 1975 World Traveler for 40.00from a man who bought it when he was 14 at the time and since has restored it. He did say that he believes the grease he used gets stiff in the cold and makes it hard to turn, other than that it is a beautiful bike. Since I'm new i was just wondering if any of you guys have restored an older bike and have suggestions on what I should do with my new daily commuter. I really appreciate you guys reading this!

Oh yeah. Collectively, the guys in this forum have built, rebuilt, overhauled, and/or restored thousands of bikes.

Check the brakes, check the shifting, regrease the bearings, lube the chain, get your fit dialed in, and ride the $%&@ out of it! Being a newbie, be sure to check out mechanical tutorials and other info on parktool.com and sheldonbrown.com .

Have a blast with your "new" bike!

I'm a newbie too, I've started to restore bikes to give away and I have one of these and some other shwinns I get them at the swap shop at the dump. On Cape Cod it's the thing for recycling. So I give them to students who come here from other countries. It keeps me busy and I've learned so much about older bikes. I have a hundred and twenty so far.Quite a few are road bikes because they need them to go to work. Take your time and as the other man said check the cables and clean the retailers and the brakes and grease the bearings. Do you have the tools? There are plenty of places to get them. Have fun riding.
You might find a work stand helpful as well.
Nice pictures.

I have a '77 Schwinn traveler that is sadly not been ridden the last 5 years as I retired it as a mancave décor.
