Bikes: 1982 Nishiki Cresta, 1991 Tommasini Competizione

1982 Nishiki Cresta, heavily modified. In this configuration, the bike is fully loaded with camping gear using ultralite and compact mountaineering gear. I have since added an integrated high powered headlight and a Cygolite Hotshot tailight.

No Specialized Expeditions served up yet? I'm not up on the touring scene but I've read these are pretty highly sought after. Here's my '85 that was shamefully built as a road racer by me many many years ago. I am now in the process of slowly restoring it to it's touring glory.

Bikes: Gunnar, Concorde, Peugeot 753, Marin, Pete Tansley, Rocky Mtn, Worldrider, Francis Quinlan, Bob Jackson, Winora, Avanti, Klein, Quintana Roo, Shogun, Carlton, Emmelle, Specialized

These bikes are lucky to have such good homes.

What is the best bombproof chainset for this gunnar crosshairs? (Stock lugged fork) I want to spec it for touring mountainous areas. On the way from the UK is some 7700 9 speed Dura ace DT, a long cage 9 speed XT M771 rd and a Sora 3503 9 speed FD (US$210 all up). I will also get a 11-34 or 11-36 cassette & a KMC 9 chain. I have a silver 27.2 post, black turbo, green fizik, 44cm noodles, tricolor levers already.

I was thinking of using my ol' faithful mirage triple with TA 52/39/26 rings. I think it is 135/ 74 bcd and needs a 68x115 ISO bb. It's been going strong for 5 years and it would make the new bike seem familiar. Also i want a crank that doesn't look stupid with MKS pedals & cages. Not sure if a $200 phil BB would be required but i want something to put on and forget about on the road (will put a CK or Cane Creek 110 headset on).

wiggle.co.nz | TA 135 PCD Vento Campagnolo Outer Chainring (50-53T) | Chainrings
wiggle.co.nz | TA 135 PCD Vento Campagnolo Middle Chainring | Chainrings
wiggle.co.nz | TA 74 PCD Zelito Triple Inner Road Chainring 24-30T | Chainrings

The other option i found was a 5703 130/74 crankset (the last model before the 74 inner ring was dropped?) which i think would allow use of a 24 ring? It's hard to tell if it's as ugly as it looks online.

Shimano 105 Silver Triple 5703 10 Spd Chainset, Shimano, Shimano CHAINSETS ROAD

I'd love a Sugino Alpina but they are pricey. The NZ dollar is not that strong at the moment (60c on US$1 down from 95c on the $).
