Sloar and bikes.

Much like women and designer shoes.

Grail of the month!

I'm like a fart in a whirlwind, but I get a real enjoyment out of it. I still want that Merckx you got!

I'll second the recommendation for a Chours group with the strong dollar.

Buy the grail bike before it gets away from you...... Heck!, don't worry about the EM, as you already have it, and can always ride it as much as you want anyway, if you want to.

I'm keeping the Merckx no matter what happen. I'm more than likely going to get the Pegoretti, its a big decision being so much for just a frame, fork and headset. And unsure how the aluminum is going to ride.

He makes gorgeous bikes. Congrats. If you could go either way I would say get it; you'll forget the money long before you forget the bike. A well built Al bike rides beautifully - mine floats. I'd bet it'll climb like a Mt. Goat, too. If you don't like it, sell it. Won't loose much if any.

That is unobtainium. He no longer makes that fork. There is one for sale locally, for way too much money. It is a 51

I had a guy email me, telling me he had a nice Peg he would be willing to sell. When he told me the price, I puked a little in mouth. I was pleasantly surprised with the price of the Fina.

This.

But, realize, this is coming from a guy whose stable consists of several $200-$400 classics. ('73 Schwinn Super Sport, '85 Shogun 500, '87 Ironman Master, '92 Koga-Miyata, '92 Schwinn Crosscut)

In other words, most of you guys's regular fleet would be grail bikes to me!

There is a new Duende at a local shop with drool stains all over it.

They let me hold the frameset every so often, right after I give them my credit card for safe keeping.

I always make sure to give them my wife's just in case......

My 92' Koga miyata is easily among the nicest bikes I've ridden, and among the coolest paint jobs. No shame riding a Koga miyata - they are EXCELLENT bikes.

I've a few 9 speed bikes that share wheels, seat/seatpost and pedals. Nice predicament...

It looks like a Trek? You can get a Trek much cheaper.

I have never had a sweet ride on an aluminum road bike. I admit I have not tried a high end aluminum bike newer than the '90s simply because I want to keep my fillings in place. I hear/read new methods/materials have made aluminum a valid choice for the road. Being skeptical, I would swap parts and check the ride before committing to a $$$ group set, wheels, etc. A grail bike w/ $$$ group that gathers dust or must be sold would be depressing unless I could sell it for a good price and keep looking.

That sure is purdy, Sloar. Consider me the little red guy on your shoulder: buy a nice set of tires for it as you slowly piece together the build. I personally love having an Al bike in the mix along with steel. Different tools for sure, and diversity in the bike collection is a good thing. Well built, quality Al rides very well - esp. with nice tires and a carbon fork.

That was pretty much how I felt about my beautiful red trek 1400 that I built up to be my bike shop group ride bike. I put nice wheels and tires on it, brifters, looked so cool. 10 miles into a 15 mile loop I could not wait for the ride to end. My lower back sciatica was acting up, my hands and shoulders were numb. O sold that bike.

I dig my Alu Cross.

Great placeholder till I get the next frameset in place.
