I'm starting to see how you freaks end up with a garage full of bikes!
Maybe it's soon to be "us freaks."
I just bought a '79 Fuji America that is pretty close to perfect for me. Then a Trek 610 popped up on Craigslist, and I love the idea of vintage Trek steel. I want it so bad... |
It is called N+1...and it keeps building...
|
N+1 is a character trait required for longevity on this forum.

Vintage steel...
Buying a bike for the love of... You're hooked. It's just a matter of coming to terms with it. Soon you will be hiding bikes... Lying about how much spent... Worrying about 'period correct'... Have you identified your 'Grail Bike' yet? |

Currently I think my America is pretty damned close, but I'm also totally enamored with it. I'm sure as I keep perusing this forum I'll find one. |
Freaks?
|
Repeat after me:
"I am not a freak. I am not a freak. I am not a freak." |

resistance is futile

At least this "Freaky" C&V forum is not just all "Schrimanolo"..............although most of the other brands outside those three that are discussed (and sometimes similarly "worshipped") here are long gone, and maybe some for good reasons.....

I did laugh to myself yesterday though, rode a Colnago to the Coffee House, when I came out, "I used to have a bike like that, a Schwinn Continental"… And he seemed so happy to see a bike like his from his youth. "they are around still I replied" |

Why are you looking at me funny? And, to the original poster, welcome aboard! Now, let's see how long it is before the lame rationalizations start kicking in: "I can flip this one!" "Got it for a friend" "I just bought it for the groupset" "Yeah, I bought the group of 5 bikes, but I really only wanted the one, and I'll drop the others off at the co-op" |

Bought it for the group, done that myself, but a lot of times for just tires! You haven't reached freak status until a two car garage has a few bikes under the carport. I've disassembled bikes to make room. One or two old bikes is sane compared to me, someone with 40+. Might be pushing 45 now, I haven't counted in a while.,,,,BD
And to think I was down to 25 when I moved back to Houston 2 years ago. |
freaks?... we are not freaks... they are just bikes... but, they are so pretty, and shiny... my precious... get away!
|
Freaks?? What do you expect, from us C&Vers that constantly breath in cotton fibers from our buffing bonnets, heavily laced with aluminum oxide and metal polish....plus all that tire glue, grease and oil.....and saddle wax.... all that junk must end up settling in the freaky "retrogrouch" part of our brains.

Also: everyone keep posting pictures of your collections, they're getting me absurdly excited. Take that as lewdly as you wish.

I feel so inadequate with only four bikes to my name!
