Well let me catch you up some...

March I got laid off a job I had for 19 years and 9 months
April I'm going to go do intervals and ridding through a house development near town I had a dog run out in front of me. Next I know a lady asks me if I know where I am at.
I say "no" to which she answers "University of Maryland Shock Trauma".
I don't recall the ambulance or helicopter ride which took, I'm told, about 2 1/2 hours .

Still suffering from headaches.

Broken helmet, broken Cannondale Slice RS, new Powertap pedals, disc, 80 front wheel and assorted other goodies are trashed. Them ambulance folk like to cut every stitch of clothes, including as nice Champsys Thermoshield team jacket off as well. I do understand why.

I'm getting tired of being naked in the middle of the road when no alcohol is involved

Got another job that said I didn't have to travel much. That ended up being a lie so I kicked that to the curb. Took a couple months off and landed a job with another company doing what I had done at the job what I got laid off from.

So... during that 6 month period I managed to gain 10 kilos, lose 30W of power, lose 12 kilos and gain 25W back.

Raced a 10 mile TT the other weekend on my Specialized Hardrock 26" wheel hardtail. Dag gum 2" wide knobbies are loud at 30+ mph. Finished 11th overall and 2nd in age group only 30 seconds behind the guy on a road bike with clip-ons. 27:43 was the time. Get you some of that Spanky.

So went for my normal Tues morning ride today to meet some associates for breakfast. Almost to the Irvine Costco and RAIN - WTF? This is SoCal! Got all wet, can't remember the last time it's rained here so the roads were really dirty (and slick!) My wife has washed the jersey twice, still stained. The bike was a bigger mess than after Breathless Agony! And I had just installed my new 6700 FD, new chain & cleaned the whole drivetrain last week. Huge mess for just 18 miles of riding.

Oh well! First world problems and all. At least I didn't drive my car that I had washed Sunday afternoon and get it all dirty!

... I wonder what was going through that other fella's mind at the time! Can you imagine being clipped in and on the bars and hearing that mess coming up behind you?

Sorry about the concussion, glad you're mostly back and where's my tiny violin so I can play along with your song.

Finally get to try out my shiny new green shoes too. $89 buxx to clean and tune my bike and he did it in my own drive way. No driving to the shop, no "sorry, it'll be two weeks".

Why do I feel like the only one that gets up in the morning and thinks, Hey, it's unseasonably cool out today, maybe I'll do a century. Then, like the big dumb animal I am, tries to get as close to 5 hours as possible. Notes: everything after mile 95 is just a haze. Full auto-pilot time. Still sitting here, waiting for the rubber legs to kick in, as it were.

OK, I'm impressed. I've done a handful of rides where my average speed was in the low 18s. But they've been flat rides and 50-60 miles tops.

Good job!

I'm still questing after my white whale-- routinely managing rides with a 20mph average. I've managed to break 20 a couple of times, up to distances of 40 miles or so, and I'm getting to where maintaining 19+ isn't super difficult, even up to the 5 hour mark it would appear. But that last mile an hour... the crappy roads and having to bust the wind by my lonesome-- it is tough.

A whole lot of right turns went into that 19.2 average. Stop signs/lights tend to drop rides down to ~18 real quick.

More of mixing in criminal activity with riding so I can suck less at CX..... Can't really say I'm getting faster at running but am getting less slow.

Well then you probably already are at a 20+mph moving average. If you had all the roads cleared in front of you like for a grand tour, you'd be there!

250W for 5+ hours. Well done. Which power meter if I may ask?
No go get on the bike and spin for an hour; just enough force on the pedals to make them move.

Stages on a DuraAce 7900 arm. You know, the perfect cosmetic match for my CX50 crank on the other side.

I did a really laid-back 22 miles the morning, but the legs are definitely still not super happy about it. I think I had the saddle a tad too low back on Monday, and climbing 4,700 feet that day just did my legs in. I didn't notice any soreness yesterday, even after finishing the ride, but whoo boy it's arrived today. If I'm looking at Google images correctly, my vastus medialis and vastus lateralis are not pleased with me right now.

Went for a 20 mile ride Wednesday evening, bike worked well except for a pesky brake rub I can't identify. Strangely, it was dependent on my hands on the handlebars! Right hand only, no rub. Left hand only, rub. Even with the front brake fully open, so it's probably the rear. It's barely audible but I'm fussy. Sort of like the sound you get from corduroy pants.

Anyway, my shoulder was pretty sore at the end of the ride but otherwise held up pretty well. We're leaving on vacation for a week tonight, so that will give me one more week to rest up and then it's back to a normal schedule come hell or high water.

Yeah, that's the problem with a Stages crank. Speaking of which... I need to remind myself to sell mine; thanks!

after riding 5 miles into the wind (20-28mph headwind with some cross wind) I had me an El Diablo burger at Carl's Jr. and rode home (12 miles total outside today) https://www.strava.com/activities/715893171 Then I set up the trainer to ride indoors and got three miles before I could tell I needed to stop https://www.strava.com/activities/715926395.

15 miles today for 93 miles this month and 988 miles this year.

Wind-tervals are awesome!
Twice the work for half the road. I heart me some of those.

Brattleboro, VT to Philly tour is in the books. Crappy computer decided to stop functioning the first day of the tour even though it was working during the ride from the train station to my motel Friday evening. Total mileage was probably about 400. Photos to follow.

I get some of those once in a while due to our regular weather here. I usually avoid the small chainring unless I am climbing a hill... but it seems lately I have been wearing out the small chainring fighting the wind.

Some might say mistakes were made. All I can remember is coming around a bend, and saying to myself, "Dear god no..."

The steepest part of the Access Road to the reservoir climbs 184ft in 0.1 miles. Just brutal.
