Hey guys, thanks for the love here.
In regards to which way spokes should be laced, there are plenty of arguments for both ways, and both ways have valid reasons.

The reason why we do elbows out as the pulling spoke is to have the better bracing angle on the spoke that is transferring torque when you are pedaling. Again, there's reasons for both ways but we have had really good success with this way for over 7 years now.

I'd say as long as you aren't lacing anything radial on a rear wheel then you are doing good. 😀

So you are bracing the angle of the spoke rather than the spoke itself. Inside the flange is support for the spoke by the flange itself while taking the torque. I'll have to look up your technique just to edumacate myself. Sources say no big deal but it's good to understand the other side.

Not everybody knows that vaccum cleaners suck.

So I spent this Saturday afternoon puttering around the garage with the boys, making a frame for one of #1’s birthday presents (name painted in animal letters from the zoo). Afterwards, #2 was having a ball cleaning up sawdust with our dustbuster-on-a-stick, but it got full, and wouldn’t pick up any more (not that he noticed). So I took him to the garbage can and showed him how full it was, and how to empty it. Once empty, I said “now you can suck up that pile of sawdust over there.” I walked over to the outlet to plug the vacuum back in, and #2 headed for the sawdust. From behind me I hear, “I don’t wike it”, and I turn to see #2 on his knees, with a face full of sawdust.
Note to self: 3-year-olds don’t necessarily know that “suck” is what vacuum cleaners do.

Lesson I learned today: there's a difference-- at least inside my head-- between a target and a goal. Before I roll out of the driveway in the morning, I generally give myself a goal for the day's ride, whether it be distance, climbing, total work (kJ,) whatever. I do this either because I'm trying to finish a Strava challenge, make a weekly total, or most importantly-- trying to limit myself on that day, so I don't overreach again and end up wasted.

So this morning I gave myself a set of goals-- 20 miles, 1,000ft, 1,000kJ. Simple. Fairly easy 70% effort (which usually falls right at 50kJ/mi) will have this done in about 80 minutes. The problem arises inside my head. I hit 1,000ft at like the 13 mile mark, so I headed for flatter land. But I wasn't feeling tired in the least, so I just kept going. Next thing I know, I'm past 1,300ft, I hit 1,000kJ right at the 20 mile mark... and still had about 5 miles to get home. Ended up with 25.1 miles, 1,581ft, and 1,287kJ.

So I'm going to try tricking myself be setting targets-- get home at exactly X number of miles, vertical feet, or total work. I was feeling a little bonked out last Thursday, but one day of rest and I'm right back to doing too much too fast. Good thing tomorrow is an off day too.

Your YTD figures are 11,075 miles/428,760 feet. I'm at 6,835/314,397. I know I would have crossed the over-training threshold if I was anywhere near your numbers. We have to push ourselves hard to get better, but only to a point.

Sounds like you're figuring it out. Do it like a car rally or a predicted log boating event, where it is not the fastest time that matters, it is coming it as close to the exact time and distance that the route calls for.

If I came across a hamburger with a 50ft radius I don't know that I'd be able to resist it.

LOL. I couldn't put my finger on it, but you nailed it. The carpet in our offices is not quite as blue as the image shows. It's definitely more green, but it still may be made out of furry monsters of some sort.

Some (two nut jobs) I ride with have a goal of 1 MILLION ft this year, they surpassed that number last year. I don't like climbing THAT much

I'll take my half way to space, I averaged 1407ft of vertical per ride But I think @jimincalif is floating in space by now

My 436,644ft YTD puts me up in the thermosphere (almost 83 miles,) but that's only about 1/3rd of the way to the ISS, so in a few more years I'll have climbed to a space station.

Spooky. Mine works out to 1,404ft of vertical per ride for the year.

It's a good thing (for me) that I wasn't ever thinking about carbon tubulars!

Boyd is running their "Buy a carbon wheelset, get a set of Altamonts for free" deal again.

December 15th through 19th

Buy any Carbon Tubular wheelset, and get an alloy training wheelset for FREE!!

new jersey got here and it actually fit (I usually were Primal 3xl, and this is a 4xl) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My wife and youngest are making sugar cookies (I will smell them and not eat them), and White Christmas is playing on Netflix.

Oh and the roads for a mile from my house are covered in snow, with the main roads being clear, but the temp is 15 degrees outside. Looks like I need to break out the trainer and get some riding in.

TV hung on the wall, Shelves for the stereo hung on the wall, stereo components (all about 15 or so years old) put in place.

Now to see if I can mirror the display on my computer to the TV so I can use the big 55 inch display with Zwift or BKool when I am on the trainer.

You certainly can with a chromecast if you have one of those. (I'm assuming zwift and/or bkool are browser based)

Zwift is browser based, but BKool will run on the cell phone as an app. I can broadcast the phone, and I have a usb cord for the phone to plug in my ANT+ stick so that the phone can read the trainer.

Zwift is now capable on the I-Phone/apple mobile device platform for everything, but I have an Android.
