I don't think you can define a Clydesdale purely by weight. A guy who's 6' 6" and 200 lb. does not qualify IMHO. I propose a different standard: more than 3 lbs. / inch of height and you are in the club.

I am watching what I eat, and very careful about sugar consumption, carbs, fat, etc., which helps somewhat, but I was doing before getting on to cycling and spinning and all it did is help me maintain my weight. So I attribute most of the loss to the cycling and spinning.

But a bicycle and its components can tell the difference between someone who is 6-8, 275 and someone who is 5-2 and 275. It's all the same.

I'm down around 70# doing Weight Watchers and riding. (It may not be "hip" but it works.)

The problem is if you don't have a program to help you fix your eating behaviour problems -- you can't keep the weight off. I think, unless you become really hard core, you will have a hard time sustaining weight loss without adding a structured diet to your arsenal. A really hard one hour ride by a typical clydesdale burns off about three slices of pizza. That leaves another hour and a half for the Anchor Steams, 45 minutes of riding for the garlic knots. Fahgedabout the Ben and Jerrys... You have to move onto your bike.

Or figure out how to cut the intake.

I don't preach from the "saved" side so much as from "seen the errors of my ways..."

Either way, good luck.

The bike may not but the road definitely will. I doubt the 5-2, 275 lb guy will have anywhere near the strength to weight ratio as the 6-8, 275 lb guy.

feels strange!

I've was a clydesdale for 30 years...about 250 at 5' 7" up until a couple of years ago. I now weigh 165 and I fear no hill!!! ...it's amazing how a little thing like a heart attack can change your life

Last I checked I was in around 250-260 and 5'11". I've always been a big guy but I'm working on that. I'll always be big just because of my frame but I could sure use to loose some body fat.

I ride a roadie I built myself. it started as an aluminum cheapo dept store frame and I built it up from there. It's nothing special, and still has stupid grip shifters on it but it rolls good. I do must of my commuting on a Trek 820 (steel) STS mountain bike.

Hello fellow Clyde's! I believe I belong to the club at 6'3 275 lbs. I just finished my first build in 12 years and here it is.
Thanks, and happy pedaling.

I'm tipping in at 230 at 6 foot 1. I've got a steel Bianchi and a aluminum Colnago. Wheels are important. I'm riding Velocity wheels and have thousands of miles on them with no issues. On the plus side, I just got the first pair of Aerohead rims powder coated in Celeste to match my Bianchi. Stay away from combo frames with carbon chain stays and seat stays. Also stay away from wheelsets that are less than 32 spoke. These are for flyweights, not us real world guys.

Depends on the wheel/build. I'm 230lbs and have a set of 24/28 count hubs on my (handbuilt) wheels. Absolutely NO issues, and I ride lots and lots of centuries on them.

Hey everyone -

You can count me in on the list at 5'10" 220 lbs but losing the weight fast after starting to ride more every week. I have lost about 12 pounds in the past few weeks so far. I'm too stubborn to change my diet so this seems to be the perfect way for me to lose weight and best of all it is fun!

I have an 02 Giant OCR that I have fixed up.

Here are pics of my ride...

sfend002,
I bought the frame on ebay from a guy. Then I shopped LBS's, Nashbar/Perf., and ebay for all the components to build it. Then some guy popped a pair of the Vista's on craigslist.com for $170 so I snatched those up. I wanted everthing to be black to contrast the orange. Shimano's website has a great cross reference chart for part compatibility and I used it extensively. Thanks,

Fishrising - nice bike. I'm 6'7, 275-280 and have been looking for a bike. Is the Trek a 63cm? How does it fit you - does it feel like a compromise or is it comfy? I used to ride 27" frames and have been looking for something that size, but the 63 cm is more like 25" or so, so I am curious. I see way more 63 and 64 cm for sale than I do 66 and up.

Thanks,
Mike.

Hey Gerdz,

I gotta tell ya, I have a Trek 5000 and I love it, but for what I've done to get comfortable on a 62, I should have gone with a custom Ti bike from Zinn in Boulder. Leonard is 6'6" himself and has helped be get the 5000 to fit. I've fitted it with an AlphaQ Z fork, with a 450mm steerer tube that double walled carbon for strength as the standard Trek fork was way too short. Also upgraded the Bontrager Race x Lite wheels to Mavic Ksryium Elites and couldn't be happier. All tolled, it's a 21lb setup, but at 240lbs, I've got more to lose off my a** than I can lose on the bike. All together, with the bike, blowing through a chain, wheels, bottom bracket, wider bars, longer seatpost, 2 saddles to get comfy, new stem, forks, I'm just under $4,000 in a year, and that's some real serious bargain shopping too.

Check out Leonard's site, it'll be worth it and it'll also be my next ride in a few years!

Also check out Moots - great bikes!

Any of you other clydes thinking of going for some of those carbon wheels. I was looking at the Nimble line and they offer a clyde version that looks pretty cool. https://www.nimble.net

Not sure if I fit in here or not! I'm 5'9" and am currently 205. My goal is get down to 190 by fall, but I'm not going to sweat that. I have always lifted weights at work (firefighter/paramedic) so I'm in pretty good shape. That said, it didn't take too long for a few small hills to make me reconsider that statement. lol But the title of this thread and ensuing posts made me wonder.

I'm at 205, but have lost 20 pounds the last 4 months. I'm riding a Trek 2200, and it's still holding up. Shooting for racing weight (from back in the 1990's) at around 170-175 by the start of 2007.
