It went fabulous! It was pretty short (about a mile before my feet were cramping up awful...bad idea to wear flipflops) A small step, but still moving forward. Can't wait to go again tomorrow. As for my favorite thing about riding? I'd long forgotten how it feels to be moving on a bike...that 'like flying' quality is fabulous! This may just be the best thing I've done in years, right up there with quitting cigarettes!

I'm in the Midwest, North Dakota specifically. Elevation is something I won't have to worry about for a long...long time lol.

That explains being light enough to ride....in evening....stays light later up north than here in California.

My dad grew up in Portland, ND...visited family in Fargo and in Minnesota myself growing up.

I still have family on both my parents side in ND, MN and WI

Welcome NoDak! I'm from Minnesota, by the Big Lake. I didn't ride for years because of how hilly home was.

Name: Sarah
Age: 33
Marital Status: Married
Height/weight: 5'5 and a half/225#
What bike do you currently ride: A Brompton and my old beloved mid-80's Nishiki mountain bike, which has road slicks and is my all-weather errand runner. And I have a steel road bike on the way to replace my old one, which was badly the wrong size, but I kept feeling like it ought to fit and then not riding it because riding it hurt.
How long have you been riding?: As long as I can remember. My first bike had only one training wheel, since it was a hand-me-down.
Are you currently trying to lose weight, and how are you going about it?: Nope. I expect I will lose a bit since some of this went on after an injury and the resulting inactivity, but I'm not dieting.
What is your ultimate goal?: Riding-wise, I'd like to be able to do centuries on a whim, and to be able to comfortably do my commute (36 miles round-trip) without being beat when I get home. And be able to ride out to Walden Pond to go swimming, despite the fact that I live about ten miles further away than I used to.
How often do you ride and for how long?: Right now -- errands (my husband has a car but I do not) and multi-modal commuting once or twice a week (pubtrans with the Brompton to work, ride home, about 20 miles total).
What is your favorite thing about riding?: Riding has been transportation and fun for me most of my life -- the freedom of being able to go where I wanted at age 12 is still kind of fun as an adult even if I could buy a car if I actually wanted to.

Name: Sue
Age: 52
Marital Status: Married
Height/weight: 5'4" 241 as of this AM. Down 13 since Aug 13.
What bike do you currently ride: I have 3. My main bike is a Giant Transport that is a utility bike that I love. I also have a Specialized Myka and a folding Citizen Tokoyo. I think the next bike (maybe when I hit my goal weight?) will be a cyclocross.
How long have you been riding?: About 5 years.
Are you currently trying to lose weight, and how are you going about it?: Yes. I am working out with a personal trainer and riding more. I can commute to work, only 10 miles round trip. So now that summer vacation is over (I teach high school) I will be getting back to that.
What is your ultimate goal?: To lose about 100 pounds. To add years to my life. To ride my bicycle cross-country when we retire.
How often do you ride and for how long?: Now that summer vacation is over I am easing back into the commute, and I will start riding a longer ride on Sunday mornings. So by mid-October, it will be 4 - 6 days per week. It is how I get cardio.
What is your favorite thing about riding?: I like so many things, but it is an outdoor activity my husband and i can do together.

Welcome Antimonysarah, sjordan and islandseas! Always nice to see more women on board. Hand around and give us some ride reports!

Sue, how do you like the Myka? I have thought about trying mountain biking and that is one of the few mountain bikes that comes small enough for me.

hey you all, just popped in to say hello again. When it got super hot here in FL, I lost my commitment for awhile. But it's getting slightly better (cooler, dare I say the word?) now, so I'm hoping to get going again soon.

How long have you been riding?: I used to when I was in college, back in the olden days (instead of going to class) I started up again when my 82 year old dad fell off his bike and I didn't want him to go alone, so I borrowed my neice's bike and got hooked.
Are you currently trying to lose weight, and how are you going about it?: Yes. Eating right going to the gym. I have lost 50 pounds.

What is your ultimate goal?: to be healthy How often do you ride and for how long?: On the weekends for about 2 hours or so. I did the Long Beach Marathon bike tour in Oct.

What bike do you currently ride: Trek 8.1
How long have you been riding?: I had this freaking sweet pink and grey 10-speed when I was a kid that I rode *everywhere*. Then I turned 16 and got a car and forgot about biking. I'm just now getting back into it and hoping to ignite a love of riding in the rest of my family.
Are you currently trying to lose weight, and how are you going about it?: Yes. Exercise and better diet. The basics.
What is your ultimate goal?: To be fit enough to ride far and transition into running as well.
How often do you ride and for how long?: For now I'm going to try to ride a little bit each day and build up to a decent regular 30-45min workout.
What is your favorite thing about riding?: Speed and freedom, baby.

I'm brand new to these forums and hoping to find a home and some friends here. YAY!

Hey, nice to see you back again. I am going to spend most of winter in Florida this year and will be in Clearwater along the Pinellas trail for the month of January. Maybe we can get together and ride! I will be carless though, relying on my bike for errands.
