Axle replacement isn't bad....get the appropriate quick release axle and make sure the hub isn't damaged.

No biggie! You thought you'd just trashed half your drive train! No worries!

Just don't let life run you over...older bikes often require some TLC to bring them back!

Yep, the joys of an older bike! Just think of how good you'll feel when you get it done! Sounds like at least a bearing job onm the BB. I'd replace it with a sealed BB, frankly!

thanx. yeah most obvious is the paint. the new seat. the used cinelli "giro d' italia" 64-40 drops with old school tape and new tektro brake levers. i replaced the tires and brake pads, and basically did all the work including repacking all bearings. the lbs did the cables, and installed the headset. thanx to this site for all the info! im hoping on starting a nishiki fixie pretty soon. either that or upgrading the drivetrain to a 10 speed cassette and wheelset to 700c on this bike.

Get down in to the drops and get a bit more aero and you might just pick a mile or three up /hr! Good job though!

i was peddling hard.. i heard a light popping coming from the front wheel, then i blinked once and did a front flip then started rolling the next second. only thing damaged was the new milano seat that i JUST bought, it has a couple of scratches on the back. and of course the whole front wheel..

the hub was cracked on both sides of the ball bearing races.. grease was leaking out. probably not salvagable. they were nice shimano ones too.. time to run 32/32!

this whole event reminds me to buy a good helmet.. sooner or later!
