bike was sold out from under me.

I have decided to stick to the used route. On another forum that I am a very active member of (non bicycle related) a member was selling a 21" trek 820. I looked at the pictures and made him an offer of $120 approx. 1 hour after he posted the add. He was asking $150 or best. He got back to me saying $125, I accepted in a second email stating that I could pick it up next week. He sent me an email that said he found somebody else giving him full asking price. It sucks because it looked like a nice bike. Yellow trek 820, upgraded Deore shifter's and cassette. upgraded seat, newer tires, recent tuneup. Oh well, I found a giant yukon for sale on craigslist, sent the guy an email. here is to hoping this bike finds its way into my garage...

As a better buying tactic, take a look at the bike first - don't talk money before you get there. Make every effort to get there fast. When you're there have bills where you can give exact change for whatever you may negotiate with.

Good luck shopping - it's a good time!

I know how you feel, pisses me off when say someone is selling something for $10, I offer $8 and they agree then only to find out someone came around and offered the full $10 so I get the shaft.

I just got a 21" Trek 800 for $125 off craiglist in mint condition, not sure what the difference is in the 820 but it seems like a nice bike so far

Don't worry hopefully the Yukon will work out for you, good luck!

My last bike sold had a CL post clearly stating I wasn't going to talk price over the phone before people saw the bike. That routes out a lot of unwanted calls.

I just bought a bike of Craig's List and the guy was taking it back to his house as it was at his dad's house. He brought it by so I could take a test ride and we made a deal. I told him I would need to go by the bank and get the money the next morning. As I was sitting in line at the bank, I got a call from the dude asking if I was still coming. Told him I'd be there in 10 mins. When I pulled up, there was a guy standing there with cash in hand in case I blew him off.

Had a couple friends buy stuff off Craig's List and this is an issue. If your looking be prepared to move fast.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

At least the guy sent you the email that he'd sold it. That's more than a lot of CL'ers do!
