Reading everyone's goals is so inspiring! Here are mine (those that relate to the content of this forum, anyway ):

* Lose 80 lbs and get under the 300 lb mark (in 2007 I lost 20, then regained 5)
* Ride at least 1000 miles, though 2000 would be better (in 2007 I rode about 500)
* Do ANY or ALL of these - 1) Repeat 35 mile Mille Lacs ride that about killed me in 2007, but have it be easy, 2) Complete 70 mile Mille Lacs ride, 3) Ride a portion of, or even all of the Katy Trail, or 4) ride in some other cycling event.
* Be active on this forum again! Last year when I quit reading and posting here, I also quit riding and losing weight!

I really enjoyed my intro to cycling this year and am continuing training through the winter to get faster and stronger (long way to go). Goals for 2008...

1. 3,500 miles
2. Sub 6 hour century
3. 200k ride (either solo or organized)
4. At least 4 century or longer rides (time is the biggest issue here)
5. Either the MS 150 or Tour de Cure (or both)
6. Climb Monteagle, TN (would be my longest climb to date)
7. Find a good weight to settle in at by 6/30/2008 (thinking about 170 lbs - 27 pounds to go)
8. Complete a sprint distance triathalon (should be pretty easy as long as the doc gives my knee the ok for running)

There may more that pop up but that's a start.

I'm hoping to do the Jack & Back this year too. I was going to do it last year by my wife had a seizure about a month before and it wasn't prudent at the time. Maybe I'll see you there!

Goals for 2008...

-Lose about 35 pounds (to get to 200 lbs.)
-Ride more than 4000 miles (22 mile commute round-trip to school should make this easier)
-Get average riding speed up to 20 mph
-Not break anything on my bike
-Sell my broken (d.hanger is broken) Trek1420 frame/fork and buy new integrated shift/brake levers for my "real" bike
-Not get into any accidents while riding.

Bike related goals for 08:

- double my miles, 1500 in 07 to 3000 in 08
- lose the 34 lbs to get to sub-Clyde status
- find a flat(ish) century in CO (good luck with that) and do my first one
- get my Axis set up for commuting
- sell the old Rockhopper and find a Vintage touring bike to restore

This thread is indeed inspiring.

I'd like to disqualify myself from posting in this sub forum. That requires I lose another 50 pounds, 20 pounds of which I will be losing "again."

My 2007 mileage goal was 3600. I reached 3400. I will reach 3600 or more this year.

I will rearrange the garage so that less storage area involves the weight machine. I need to get back to regularly using it.

Everyone should include a fantasy in their goals. I choose not to get any flats in 2008.

I have thought of doing a century each year for the past two and have yet to attempt it. Perhaps this year.

Average cadence for 2007 was 71. I'd like to boost that to 80.

I'm a relative newbie, so my goals are very modest...

1.) Purchase my first "real" bike from a LBS (after several abortive attempts that I've posted here previously).
2.) Ride a 20 miler by the end of the summer.
3.) Work towards a century by the end of NEXT summer (09).

Let’s see (wish list)

· Do 9 double centuries
· Complete my 4th triple century
· Help the local bike club with more events
· Get more riders to do “The Lung Ride” www.kernlung.org
· Raise more money for the American Lung Association
· Lose some weight
· Have fun riding my bike

Maybe not in that order.

I got 3340 in 2007 and I'd like to get 5000 this year. I started riding in July of 2006, so my year goes from July to July. I guess a could change that though. I turn 68 in August and I weigh 200#, and I'd like to get down to 190#. I was close to 220# when I started, but I'm sure having a hard time getting below 200#. Anyhow, to lose 10 more pounds and up my mileage by 1500 and I'll be pretty happy.

2. Ride a Century
3. Drop my riding friend on our weekly ride. Just once, I want him to see what it feels like.

Well, figured I'd throw my goals in here too, you all have some inspiring ones!
  • Lose 50 pounds
  • Ride at least 3 days a week
  • Run at least 3 days a week
  • Ride a century
  • Run a half marathon
  • Finish my Bachelor's degree
  • Move to San Fancisco
  • Start Culinary school
  • Learn to play my new keyboard

I think that should keep me busy for a year or so.

I didn't really have any goals for 2008- just be better and smarter and fitter and stuff. But I'm intrigued now. I was reading up on the Hotter-n-Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. I knew they had a cut-off time where they wouldn't let you do the 100 if you weren't past a certain point at a certain time. But turns out, to make that time, you've got to be averaging 12 or 14 mph or something- Hey, I can do that! We'll see I'm faring with weight and heat when the time rolls around- if I'm cruising around in Dallas and feeling fine, I'll go for it.

Get to emeritus status. 35 lbs to go

Ride the heck out of bike that comes with emeritus status. Hoping to achieve the emeritus status by the time the outdoor season rolls around for me.

Since I am a returning noob I will post mine.

Loose 50 lbs. Back to 190 maybe...
Really learn how to ride a road bike and do some fairly serious miles. Sounds dumb but I have never
ridden more than 12 miles at a time.
Ride 50 to 75 miles in a day by end of summer.

The biggest goal is to stick with it an not come back here next January talking about being a noob again.

Goals are good. Aiming high allows us to reach heights that we may not have if working towards moderate goals.

Mine:
- I'm taking on my first marathon in May.
- I want to get within 30 minutes of the winner on my favorite metric in April. That means 2:45 or better over the 62 mile / 100 km course. Last year was 3:15 which was a personal best.
- I've been challenged to get my swimming up to speed to compete in a half ironman in December. The ride and run are no problem so its a definite maybe, but won't be a minor effort.
- lose the last 10 pounds I need to break the 200 mark for the first time since 1993. I've already lost 35 since taking up cycling but I'm hoping branching out to running and swimming might help.
- don't loose ground while doing all this new stuff. I'd hate to find I'm getting slower.

Somehow that should be enough for this year. I've never done a triathlon before so that will be a new experience. It also leaves room to grow for next year.

Good stuff on here. Goals:

2008 in 2008 (I think I'll blow this one out, but who knows? I'm at almost 250 already, but that counts my weekly miles while traveling and using the hotel bikes)

Get under 200 lbs (I'm flatlining at 215 -- gotta get that down)

Ride 40 when I am 40 (I never go that many miles, but should be able to do this on one of the LBS regular Saturday rides when things warm up -- I'll be 40 in May)

I'm curious about this "Jack & Back" MS ride in TN. I go to TN for work all the time -- doing some fun and raising money might be a nice diversion from my regular travel schedule. I cannot find anything on the web yet. Links would be appreciated.

Be in shape to enjoy riding RAW in August

If I do that, the rest will take of itself.

My goals for 2008?

1. Ride the darn bike that my kind and wonderful better half let me purchase. A tad over budget.
2. Complete the 100 mile course at the 2008 Tour de Cure that I just signed up for.
3. Keep on keepin’ on.
