Because I Encourage the Female Cyclist, and I love Atherna Butts!

Ha! Finally got it out of Gina. She finally admitted that I wa righ about lady saddles. I'm sure one of the big discomfort issues when it comes to the Athena riding is the saddle. Gina was victim of the comfort saddle. the big puffy lycra covered one. I begged her to try a womens saddle but nope, the woman is always right. OK, well actually I let her choose the saddle just so taht she would ride. That's the kind of guy I am, the kind that tries to encourage all women to ride!.

So anyway, she rides this comfoprt saddle for 5 years. She complains about discomfort on 40 milers so I continue to rec a good lady's saddle. But still she refuses to give er a try. Again we go around about the saddles. But again, I'm just happy to have one more woman on the road so I let her have her way!

She ends up doing 1500 miles a year. Not bad, actually great just to have one more female cyclist out there on the road!......So, I end up buying her a carbon fiber roadie. This time, Iinsist on a better saddle. I'll take it off if she doesn't like it! She rides the bike 50 miles on the first ride with no discomfort!

So then she ends up doing 3000 miles each of the next two years. Then this year she kicked it up to 3700, WOW! All my encouraging of the opposite sex has really paid off as this Athena has RODE her bike!

But this last weekend she decides that we will do a nice ez cruise. She chooses her weapon and it happens that this ride has her used to be favorite saddle, the big puffy lycra covered comfort saddle. We only ride 20 miles and she's hurting! Matter of fact, after 10, she mentions the discomfort of her old friend.

So at the end of the ride, she says, "you were right all along, who would have thought these saddles are that much better?". Then agian I explain, so many are afraid to try something that looks uncomfy but in reality, it is designed with more characteristics that contribute to the comfort factor.

A simple $50 seat is all it took to make her rides more comfy resulting in longer mileage which equals more ride time, more fun. Living proof that more wimmins should give a descent quality saddle a chance. Don't be afraid to try because fo it's looks, they work!

Hers is a Specialized lady's gel Dolce. $50 of sweetness. Her old saddles were Velo saddles, the puffy lycra type. In 5 years, she's gone thru 3 of them. As far as the Specialized, she's been on the same one for 3 years and no issues.

Her 40, 50, 60 ,70 , 80 mile rides are proof that the quality lady saddles are far superior to the puffy lycra comfort saddles. Saddles that barely survived 40 milers.

So as I enourage other Athenas to get out and ride, but please invest in a good seat. And you hubbies, quit being cheap bass-turds and buy your woman a good seat if you also care to encourage female cycling like I do!

Gina liked her so much, we bought a second one for the tandem. Now she is so much happier that I have always been so encouraging!

Hmmm - I think I have a nice seat (That is very different from a nice ***** .

It came on my bike.. 2008 Specialized Dolce ELite... but I am not sure what seat it is. It's white...I think it says the words gel on it somewhere. Smushy it is not... Beaner - you are sooo much more knowledgeable than the Bee can you compare and contrast??? Genas' vs picture's of mine on the web. I cna understand if your are entirely too busy- but just wondering...if I have the same seat - or if I could find more happiness elsewehere...

( I think it's comfy.... I mean as much as a tiny seat can be on my lovely butt).
Tell Gina - I am glad her butt is happy!

It's not just an issue for the ladies. The wrong saddle (too wide, too narrow, not enough padding, too much padding, etc.) will cause problems for any rider.

Sometimes, though, it takes that harsh comparison to have someone realize that their favourite "comfort" saddle is really what's causing the discomfort.

As the vernarable rapper, Sir Mix-A-Lot raps:

Oh, my... God.
Becky, look at her butt, it is so big.
She looks like one of those rap guy's girlfriends.
Who understands those rap guys?
They only talk to her because she looks like a total prostitute, okay.
I mean, her butt! It's just so.. Big.
I can't believe it's just so.. Round.
It's, like, out there. I mean, gross.
Look! She's just so... Black!

I like big butts an' I cannot lie.
You otha brothas can't deny.
That when a girl walks in wit' a itty bitty waist an'
A round thing in yo' face. You get SPRUNG.
Wanna pull up tough, cuz you notice that butt was STUFFED.
Deep in the jeans she's wearin'.
I'm hooked an' I can't stop starin'.
Oh baby, I wanna get wit' ya,
An' take yo' picta.
My homeboys tried to warn me.
But that butt you got makes me so horny.
Ooh, rumpled smooth skin.
You say you wanna bet in ma Benz,
Well, use me, use me,
Cuz you ain't that average groupy.
I seen her dancin',
To Hell wit' romancin'.
She's sweat. Wet.
Got it goin' like a Turbo 'Vette.
I'm tired o' magazines
Sayin' flat butts are the thing.
Take the average black man and ask him that.
She gotta pack much back.
So fella's (YEAH), fella's (YEAH),
Does your girlfrien' got the butt? (HELL, YEAH)
So tell 'em to shake it (SHAKE IT),
Shake it (SHAKE IT)
Shake that healthy butt.
Baby got back.
(L.A. back with a Oakland booty.)
Baby got back.
(L.A. back with a Oakland booty.)
(L.A. back with a Oakland booty.)

I like 'em round and big,
An' when I'm throwin' a gig,
I jus' can't help maself,
I'm actin' like an animal.
Now here's ma scandal,
I wanna get ya home an' UH,
Double up, uh, uh.
I ain' talkin' about Playboy,
'Cause silicone parts are made for toys.
I wan' 'em real thick an' juicy.
So fin' that juicy double.
Mix Alot's in trouble,
Beggin' for a piece o' that bubble.
So I'm lookin' at rock videos.
Watchin' these bimbos
Walkin' like hoes.
You can have them bimbos.
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo.
A word to tha thick soul sistas,
I wanna get wit' ya.
I won' cuss, o' hit ya.
But I gotta be straight
When I say I wanna...
Til' the break o' dawn,
Baby, got it goin' on,
A lot o' pimps won't like this song,
Cause them punks like to hit it an' quit it,
An' I'd ratha stay an' play,
Cuz I'm long, and I'm strong,
An' I'm down to get the friction on.
So, ladies (YEAH) ladies (YEAH),
Do you wanna roll ma Mercedes? (YEAH)
Then turn aroun', stick it out,
Even white boys got ta shout.
Baby got back.
Baby got back!

Yeah baby.
When it comes to females,
Cosmo ain't got nuthin' to do with ma selection.
36-24-36.
Only is she's 5' 3".

So yo girlfriend drives a Honda,
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda,
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back o' her Honda.
My anaconda don't want want none,
Unless you got buns, hun.
You can do side bends or sit-ups,
But please don' lose that butt.
Some brothas wanna play that hard role,
And tell ya that butt ain' gol',
So they toss it, an' leave it,
An' I pull up quick to retrive it.
So Cosmo says yo' fat,
Well, I ain' down wit' that.
'Cause yo waist is small an' you're curves are kickin',
An' I'm thinkin' about stickin'.
To the beanpole dames in the magazines.
You ain't it Miss Thang.
Gimme a sista, can't resist ha,
Red beans an' rice didn' miss ha.
Some knucklehead tried to diss.
Cuz his girls are on ma lis',
He had game but he chose to hit 'em,
An' I pull up quick to get wit' 'em.
So ladies if tha butt is round,
An' you wanna XXX slow down,
Call 1-900-MIX-ALOT,
An kick them nasty thought',
Baby got back.
Baby got back.

Little in tha middle but you got much back.
Little in tha middle but you got much back.

Per Bee's request! BG label which means it's a Specialized Body Geometry model. Dolce Gel with the cutout in the center, comfort for the girly bits. But 'memeber, not all saddles work the same for every rider. But this one is pretty cush.

No kidding. Fortunately, my kids don't like rap. Unfortunately, they don't like hair bands (metal) either.

Yeah, the Body Geometry saddle which came with my Dolce Elite is a GREAT saddle, and reasonably priced.

I got to test the Brooks Imperial, which is a B17 with a cutout, and it's even better, if you can believe that.

But for a reasonable price, the Dolce Gel is a winner. I don't think I've ever heard a single woman complain about it.

You're so right Mr Beanz! I bought the t-shirt for this particular mistake already. I have this lovely saddle on my commuter now-a-days and am a much happier cyclist now!

I'm very dissapointed. I was looking forward to a comparison of some female "seats" and all I get is pictures of saddles!! I still want to see some athena seats!!

BTW, that song is now firmly entrenched in my head...
