"The others fear even being nominated?" That's a typo. Was it Freudian?

No, it's the Susan Lucci curse, we're all afraid we'll wind up pitching skin cream on late night TV.

Agent: "You came in second in a Bike Forums ROY election?"
TechKnowGN: "Yep."
Agent: "I think I can get you a part in an infomercial for chamois cream. Do you think you can make a pained looking face and rub your butt right after stopping your bike"
TechKnowGN: "Can I? I do it at least weekly"
Agent: "I believe the line they want people to say is 'Don't let your butt in get a rut, use Butt Gloss'"
TechKnowGN: ...
Agent: "I know, I was moved too."

Yeah it is, unfortunately. I guess that just starts my points COY 09. LOL

However, you could always admit to some shockingly scandalous photos in a mens magazine (ala Vanessa Williams) and abdicate your ROY throne so the runner-up could take over. My understanding abdicating your ROY throne does not affect your status as Athena of the Year

I understand Mr. Beanz has created a website challenging the legitimacy of my birth certificate.

Meanwhile, I will attempt to keep the Bee in line, following Petruchio's example:

Thus have I politicly begun my reign,
And 'tis my hope to end successfully.
My falcon now is sharp and passing empty;
And till she stoop she must not be full-gorged,
For then she never looks upon her lure.
Another way I have to man my haggard,
To make her come and know her keeper's call,
That is, to watch her, as we watch these kites
That bate and beat and will not be obedient.

Of course there's little hope of 'taming' the Bee.

My acceptance speech, as reported on Clydesdale News Network:

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that the C & A Forum is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if dreams are alive in our time; who still questions the power of our doing, tonight is your answer.

Its the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled, folks who ride 'bents and folks who ride uprights and folks who ride trikes - a message to the world that we have never been a collection of differing cyclists: we are, and always will be, the C & A Forum.

Its the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of their lives and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to - it belongs to you. I was never the likeliest candidate for Clydesdale of the Year. I'm not the fastest. I'm not the strongest. I'm not the smartest or most experienced. I don't ride the most expensive bike or wear the priciest gear. But perhaps that's the reason I received so many nominations, and then so many votes. I will always be an ordinary man who managed to do what the world has decided is an extraordinary thing - I lost a lot of weight and taught myself to ride a bike. I hope, whatever I do on a bicycle, I never lose that ordinariness.

The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep, with grades over ten percent. We may not get there in one year or even two, but I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you - we, the Clydes and Athenas, we as a people will get there.

There will be setbacks and false starts. I've had several, and I'm sure I'll have more in my life. Right now it's deep winter in Pennsylvania, and tomorrow snow will cover the ground. I've put weight back on I thought I'd lost forever. But when I think about the cold and the snow and the added weight, what do I think of? Yes I can.

Can I make changes to bring me a happier, healthier life? Yes I can.

Can I make my bike take me anywhere I want to go? Yes I can.

Can I overcome any setback, fall, or accident that slows my progress? Yes I can.

Can I show obesity that while I may have it, it doesn't have me? YES I CAN!

And that's the difference between the C & A Forum and other places on the Internet. They talk and talk and say No You Can't. We on C & A do instead of talk, and believe Yes We Can. This year I'm going to do, because Yes I Can. And I look forward to reading about all the things you've done in 2009 because you decided Yes I Can.

Thank you, and God bless.

Dang it. And, I didn't even make the 'thanks for showing up' list.

The last time I entered a golf tourney, I got the horse's ass trophy. Nothing like that on these forums?

Guess that I should have paid my friends more, to vote for me.
Recount needed.

Tom, is it possible to verify the votes cast in the poll? The software should track voters.

The votes were displayed in the surveys, and you could only vote one time, per category as a default in the software. All you have to do is search for the threads, and view the results, and the graphs and tabulated votes are there.

They are public in the numbers, but anonymous in who voted for whom.

I'm 99% sure that Beanz and 10 Wheels are just busting your .....well you know what I mean. Teasing you.

Understood, but still..... they seem pretty upset about it. Particularly 10 Wheels.

My Acceptance Speech

I figured since Neil wrote a speech I would attempt one as well. I know it will be not nearly as beautiful as Neil’s speech, but I wanted to let you guys know I am indeed very honored by your voting and I know just being on the same ballot with y’all and winning along side The Historian is really an honor. The Historian’s beautiful speech has me reflecting on how fabulous is to be associated with such a wonderful friendly group! And the changes this past year as a result.

Most of the time I post pretty quickly – and just can’t wait to tell y’all about my ride. I came here back in May looking to find out what type of Bike I should ride – and that led to all sorts of questions and learning from y’all.

When I arrived – I had gained a bunch of weight – and was pretty lonely. I came here and you welcomed me. I went out, bought the bike – and then came back here and you were very encouraging as I rode off.

I have so enjoyed riding the bike. It is a ton of work – as I am usually riding with people faster than I am or going for long distances – but I have felt like superwoman every time I finished the ride – or at times seeing some of the most awesome views and meeting so many great people. I certainly made sure I could track my mileage and run back to do a write up of the ride. I realize not everyone writes about every single ride – and I know you guys have indulged me! I thank you so much for allowing me here to post and for your comments and support.

As I write this I realize I am in such a different space than I was back in May. I have lost 43.5 pounds since mid-April. I feel like a beautiful woman. More than that I have ridden over 2000 miles- and have completed many metric centuries and one Century. I have started dating again and have recently met someone who makes me happy!

Finally, I have enjoyed being with the illustrious Clydesdale / Athena Biggest Losers – and have made some wonderful forum friends along the way. I think you all rock – and thank you for taking time to show up here and help me on my way.

Thanks again for the great awards!! I am thrilled to be chosen!

Have fun on the road or trail and here’s to a fabulous 2009!!

Big Bumble Hug to everyone!

Love, The Bee
