Ill chime in here.

I am 6' 340# and my bike was state of the art when I last rode it. My primary cycle is a Batavus Professional which I ordered special from the factory with Columbus SP tubes. It has a mix of Campy SR and NR components and Phil Wood hubs. 36 spoke wheels with Mavic rims and 700x25 tires. I also have a Santana Arriva and a Specialized Hardrock. I really want to get back on but am affraid I will blow the back wheel apart.

I just picked up a Giant Deny Advanced that is all carbon fiber. It rides very comfortably so far. I am near 300 pounds and while the ride is a little soft, it's lively enough to keep me riding longer.

When I was 335 (5'10") I rode a Trek 3300 (or 3400...can't remember) and it handled well except a few minor problems at 6 months and a year (Mainly riding style...I stretched the chain ).

Now at 245 or so I am on a Trek 7.2 FX (essentially the same as the 7200 I think).

Both bikes handle me perfectly well. Hope that helps.

Oh and I also used to ride a Beach Cruiser (Chinese off brand) while overseas. It worked out well too (I was maybe 315 when I started on it).

i was counting the spokes on my merlin extra light and this is what i came up with. 28 front, 32 rear on mavic open 4cd's (double butted spokes. don't know thickness). these wheels have been great. built up 15 years ago when i was 245 and have faithfully carried me through 310. never a spoke broken, trued 2x, and most recent use has been offroad in the fields w/ my 2 youngest boys.

and to top that off, just last friday, i received a 1st gen 1UP trainer from kevin in colorado. screaming deal $99 delivered to socal. i haven't had a trainer in 8+ years! now to get busy!!

I'm 6', about 265 lbs and coming up on my 48th year.

I bought a 2004 Gary Fisher 17.5" framed Utopia about two weeks ago for $270. Everything is stock, but that's just fine for now. The guys at GF appointed the bicycle richly.

While I wish I had stumbled upon a 19" frame, it was an immaculately cared for bike and with the seat raised a bit, fits me almost perfectly. I may raise the handbars someday an inch or two, as I would prefer to ride in a LITTLE more of an upright position.

I haven't owned a bike since...well since my teenaged days and the old saying is correct: It really IS just like riding a bike (you NEVER forget how).
