For example when going shopping, I often wear other shorts over so that I have pockets for keys and wallet when in the store. Thinking of picking up a fanny pack or something similar instead though.....

Yeah, yeah, but wearing regular shorts is just the problem - they have a real tendency to just slide off

As for carrying stuff, I have a small Trek seat bag I put my phone and whatever else I need in. So that's all good. I'll see if I can't get something at Love2Pedal soon.....a fat ******* salute them kinda suits my smart-assed personality, I think Also check out the Aerotech shorts, too, soon as I get a lil' money. Thanks folks!

I am not sure that I understand your logic. My bike jersey was only $30. A cheap wicking t-shirt is going to be at least $12. A good one is going to be much more than that. You are talking about wearing an extra pair of shorts over your biking shorts so that you have pockets. This means that you have wasted any possible savings. I am not trying to be critical, but I have used some of the same warped logic to try to save money on this hobby, and I often wind up spending the same or more money only to have a less than ideal product or setup.

like most of the others have said, try a bib-short (or actually.. I prefer bib knicker to keep the elastic from digging into my legs and making mushroom legs) with a wicking type shirt over it. This is what I've come to start wearing for most of my rides. I'm 5'9" 250 and have a sizable gut. I've purchased several Oakley jerseys from Chainlove.com and Bonktown.com and the XXL's are wearable, but just not the fit I'm looking for. They seem to either be too "form" fitting or just too baggy.
So I opted for the $5 wal-mart / Target wicking atheletic shirt to wear over my bibknickers. For me, this is freakin outstanding. I stay nice and cool, have some "control" on my spare tire, good padding and still get to show my mighty calves

Your in the United States, where everything is much cheaper, I am in Canada where unless it's severely on sale, it's hard to find a jersey that is under $50, and then you have 13% tax on top. Not to mention that the only ones that seem to ever go on sale, are in sizes small, extra small, and extra extra small. MEC which often is a little cheaper never seems to have any stock in sizes larger then medium. The bike shop never has anything for less then $80, and they never seem to have anything larger then a race fit medium either.......

So, yeah, while it doesn't make the most sense, it does work for me.

There are some nice soccer and tennis shirts that fit loosely and work well as bicycle shirts.
Also Aero Teck Designs make great cycling clothes for clydes - bib shorts, and loose shirts.
