Race is done and the results are in.

6 mile paddle: 1 hour 16minutes

17 mile bike (hilly haha): 1 hour 7 minutes

5k run: 36 minutes walked about 50 yards my legs did not want to work right they wanted to pedal and not run had to get them into rythm.

Over all I improved over 20 minutes from my previous years time. Feels great, but I need to work on a faster run that is my weak link. Well that and the 8/9% grade hills for the ride. I am use to flat Chicago terrian.

Club Nationals were this weekend. My last triathlon of 2010 season.

The tri turned bi when the swim got cancelled due to e coli infestation after 5 days of rain.

I had a pretty good race. It was a flat but windy course 10 mile course, and I turned in bike PR of 28:49, averaging 20.8 MPH! My run was at or just slightly below par, because I was feeling the heat at this point. I turned in a 42:39 run, which is a PR run for me as well in a triathlon. With 6 1/2 minutes of transitions (they had us run into transition for T1, even though we didnt swim), I did 1:17:49 for the bike run, and with just my average 750 meter swim thrown in, I would have PR'd by about 10 minutes! Pretty psyched by that, and now looking forward to next season.

For the rest of the fall it will be mountain biking and road running. First road race is in just 2 weeks!

Signed up for my second tri, another reverse sprint in December. Should be a bit chilly.

If I did a tri in December, it would have to be inside because it would be a lot more than a bit chilly.

Offseason training is slowly getting started. We've been running and I got bike rollers. Of course my running has a long way to go, but progress is being made. As for the rollers, well lets just say its going to take some time, but im not falling as much now.

Yeah, this will be cold for sure. Swim will be indoors at the pool (and last thankfully, so no hypothermia )

My swimming has improved by leaps and bounds the past couple of weeks. I've done a mile and 2k yds my last two swims (totals, not continous). A few months ago, I was looking to leave the pool when I hit 400-600 yds.

Looks like I am starting my off season training too. I started runninglast week for the first time since my tri in August. The hip and heel injuries needed the time to heal so I could run again. Starting off slow, but my next tri is not until April or May of next year, so plenty of time to prepare for those. I'm also considering a half marathon about that time if I can get the legs to hold up. Finally, going to get some swimming lessons now that I am employed again. That is diffidently my weak point and can't wait to get started on improving that !

Anyone planning the upcoming 2011 season already? What will your goals be? Perhaps move up in distance, try a new more challenging venue, or even complete your first tri. Halfmax National Championships has a clyde/athena division so I'll try and qualify for the first time.

I'm pretty new around here but I'm planning on a tri or two next year. I found this forum because I just bought a bike so I can stop hammering my knees. I just completed my first half marathon December 5th in just under 2 hours for a 9'03" pace. I've fluctuated in weight from about 255 to about 225. The number has never been important but it is funny that there is a Clydesdale category. Anyway, the bike just arrived today so we'll see how well this goes. There are a few sprints coming up in March so I may start there or just jump to an olympic.

Goal is just to do more of them. A few groups run them locally, all sprint distance, www.jsmultisport.com , jersey shore area. I hope to do three compared to one last year!

I've never done one, but a co-worker wants me to do the cycling leg of a relay tri here in Indy in June. So that's what I'm working toward.

I just noticed this tri thread hanging out with the other stickies. I always ignored triathlon related threads because I had no intention of participating in one.

That has changed. I'm doing an olympic-length event on 7/31/2011 in Indianapolis. Wish me luck, I'll need it.

I'm running a 4k tomorrow, with no training. I may walk a good portion of it.

I just signed up for my second triathlon today. I am excited about it, but I am kinda worried, because I will not have alot of time to train for the swimming part of the race. What can I do to train for the swimming, when the nearest indoor pool is 30 miles away. I am not going to be able to use that facility due to their pool hours, and my work hours.

Any suggestions?

for those for whom swimming is not their best discipline I can thoroughly recommend the sidestoke method. (Its very similar to the Navy Seal's method but head stays out of the water)
I used it in my last Tri and managed 3mins 38 seconds for 200 mts but I'm a novice swimmer.
The main advantage of the stroke is that your head is well clear of the water at all times so breathing is easy and consistant. Other swimmers in your lane splashing will not effect you either.
Heres a video on youtube to give you an example.

It's awesome to see some of you posting in the thread so early in the year. Races in the summer are made possible by training in the winter. Now is the time to start preparing,
whether you're doing your first sprint, or you're an experienced iron-distance triathlete.

I got back from Las Vegas last Tuesday AM, and spent the week recovering before getting back to training this past weekend. I had my first long swim (2000 yards) last night, and tonight will ideally be a long bike. Digging in at the beginning of training is one of the most challenging and most rewarding parts of the season. Nothing like doing 2000 yards in the first swim of the year only a few minutes slower than I did it race day last year at 70.3.

We signed up for our half-ironman for this year, the Patriot half-ironman in Freetown MA

I'm planning on doing at least one tri event this year to try it out.

Good to see everyone getting ready to ramp up for tri season and even a few willing to take the plunge into this craziness. I unlike last year, have sort of planned out my training. Right now I am training for me first half marathon on April 10. After that I back off the running to start adding swimming and biking more. The plan is to do a couple of sprints at the end of the summer. I really need to still work hard on my swimming, but the half marathons around here happen in the spring, so I will do one of those first. Plus,it is good cardio that will help with the rest of the season.

Hey gang, I got through the worst parts of the offseason, and now I'm back. I had to struggle with some seasonal blahs, an eating binge in January, and more snow than I've ever seen, but now things are coming around and my season is picking up.

I still have a few loose ends, but here is the plan. I've already signed up for the half iron and ironman races.

05/08/11 - New England Season Opener Triathlon (Sprint)
06/04/11 - Rev3 Quassy Olympic - USAT Regional Club Championship
06/18/11 - Patriot Half Ironman
08/07/11 - Greenfield Lightlife Tri - USAT State Club Championship
08/20/11 - USAT Sprint National Championship (Clydesdale)
09/11/11 - Rev3 Cedar Point Full Rev (140.6)
10/08/11 - Myrtle Beach Triathlon - USAT Club National Championship

So what's up gang? How's the training going? Mine has finally taken off in February, after a disastrous January. I missed being outside on the bike during the two really warm days last week, but otherwise I've been happy with where things are headed. I don't have as much time to screw around this year, because I have to fit into my wetsuit by May and be able ready for a half-iron by june.

My longest bike of the year so far is 90 minutes, and my longest run was yesterday at a mere 30 minutes of run/walk mix. I've been in the pool a few times, and doing 2k yards hasnt been a problem. Did the 1.2M swim in just a few minutes longer than last seasons Timberman time. That means im slow right now, but I am capable. Will get faster and more endurant as time goes on.

I've been actively training for the past two months and now am gearing up for my first of the year, a sprint, on April 23rd.

I've got at least 2 other sprints lined up, at least one, maybe two, olympics (will be my first), and also a couple of bike events.

My running has improved quite a bit this year. I'm running 4 miles virtually every time without a problem (although I'm still slow). But last week I did a 6 mile (my first) and hurt something in my heel, so I'm taking some time off from running for a week or two.

Swimming has been great, too. I clip off 2000 yds each workout and have done 2500 once or twice now. My goal there is to do 3k.

The weather has only allowed me to bike outside twice so far since the new year, but this week should be a good one. Also looking at getting a new road bike (carbon) in the coming weeks, so I'm sure that will light a fire under me to bike more. That said I still managed 80 miles this month, almost all on the trainer.

I'm struggling to get my workouts done. I plan on doing something but I don't end up doing them. I am even considering just doing only the tri that I already signed up for. I wanted to do 4 tris this year, but I'm just not feeling it. Lately I have justhave been wanting to bike tour and not train for the tris.
I went for a run tonight. It was more of run 2 blocks the walk 1. I do not know how much I did, but it felt ok the part I did. I'm going to keep on trying to get the fever back.
