Turning a seat post 180 degrees to have offset point forward

My Fuji Newest 1.0's seat post has an offset (facing back) that makes it impossible for me to have the saddle forward enough (I run out of rails) to fit me perfectly.

I know that I can buy a zero offset post such as a Ritchey but they want $90+ for this.

Does it make sense (will it work and be safe) to turn the post 180 degrees so the offset is facing forward. If I did that I think I could then adjust the seat in a more forward position.

Thanks

It won't hurt anything provided you can get the seat at the correct angle after switching the post around. Some are made so that if the post is point forward the clamp is at too much of an angle and makes the nose of the seat stick way up in the air.

I have my triathlon bike (which is really a road bike) set up like that to get a better position on the aero bars. I found the seatpost in a bargain box at the bike store, so I'm not sure what kind it is.

Is it possible your bike is the wrong size?

Personally, I'd buy a zero-offset seatpost if that's what I needed. Race Face, Kalloy, Gravity, FSA, Fly Racing, and others make zero-offset seatposts that sell for $20-40. Using the correct post will prevent other cyclists from laughing at you for installing the offset seatpost backwards...

Thank you guys.
I have ordered a zero offset seatpost as suggested from sstorkel.
The bike is the right size I think. I am micro adjusting and I think this will work for me.
