Turning a seat post 180 degrees to have offset point forward

My Fuji Newest 1.0's seat post has an offset (facing back) that makes it impossible for me to have the saddle forward enough (I run out of rails) to fit me perfectly.

I know that I can buy a zero offset post such as a Ritchey but they want $90+ for this.

Does it make sense (will it work and be safe) to turn the post 180 degrees so the offset is facing forward. If I did that I think I could then adjust the seat in a more forward position.

Thanks
