MS150 Ride Report
Well, we did it. It was an awesome ride, and I will definitely try to make it part of my annual schedule.
Day one met us with rain on the drive to the starting line, but it stopped shortly after. By the time we started riding, things were beginning to dry out. Skipped the first and third aid stations, but hit the second one and the fourth (lunch) and fifth. They were serving snowcones at the fifth stop (mile 58) right before we began our big climbs into Fort Collins. Man, I enjoyed those snowcones like nothing before. Day one was 73 miles, 2,500 feet, 4:43 rolling time, 6:10 total time. Felt great at the end, drank a few beers, ate a good dinner and got a massage in our team tent.
Day two was beautiful weather, and we started off with a mean climb for the first fifteen miles. I was riding strong for about 40 miles, and then began to fade. My butt was hurting, making it painful to keep a high cadence. I stopped for lunch at mile 48, then rode the remaining 26 miles to the finish line. In total, I skipped the first stop but then hit the other four rest stops for a break and additional hydration. I carried plenty with me, but by then I was ready for some variety. Day two was 74 miles, 3,000 feet, 5:39 rolling time, 7:23 total time. Spent too much time at the lunch stop, hence the extra total time. I think fatigue and more climbing contributed to the slower ride on Sunday.
Came home and crashed after a pasta dinner. Today, I got up at usual time and went to work. My butt is sore, but otherwise I feel really good. I did have a big treat breakfast this morning, so that tasted good. My plan is to take one more day off and then get back into my training on Wednesday.
I was very fortunate to meet up with a riding partner from my club, and she and I rode the entire ride together. I couldn't have done it without her conversation, cheerleading and overall good company. Thanks Susan!!!
What a great experience. We are now training for the Tour de Cure Century in August.

interesting stuff. Very neat to see how much more diffcult day 2 was by the looks of the time. Good job, my brother also successfully completed his ride in Rhode Island over the weekend and raised over $6000 in the process!

Gratz!
I remember my first MS150 totally wiped me out. I was under prepared with a store bought Huffy and hadn't been able to ride more than 20 miles while working up to the ride.
I was in such pain for about a week. Physically drained and emotionally spent.
That was almost 20 years ago now. I'll be better prepared for my next one in August.

Good to hear it, I'll be doing my second one in October. It definitely takes it out of you! You made it in much better time than I did, so don't feel too bad.
