Here's one that scared me out of my wits the other day - my wedding ring fell off, and I was completely unaware it happened.
I was home, getting ready to wash dishes, and I always remove my ring and my watch before I do that, and this time the ring wasn't there. I went into a mild panic - looking all over the house where I'd been when I came in from work. Nothing. I looked in the car - again, nothing. I went back out to the mailbox, looking all along the driveway and around the mailbox post, trying to find a hole in the snow and ice - nothing. I went over the errands I ran after work - Kroger, Whole Foods, the card shop, and wondered if there was a chance in the world someone would turn it in or keep/sell it.
Finally I thought I'd look through my briefcase. I pulled out a plastic grocery bag I keep in there to cart leftovers and containers to and from work, and when I set it on the counter, there was a resounding thunk/clink. It had fallen off my finger when I'd reached into the bag to get my oatmeal container for washing. I had no idea.
Aside from the marital and monetary implications of losing my wedding ring, this had another element - we had our rings designed and made for us by a jewelry artist in California, so it would have also meant losing a unique piece of art.
Needless to say, both of our rings have now been put away safe until we're through losing weight and we feel it's the right time to have them resized.

I took my wife's rings and had them resized, and gave them to her for Christmas.
Mine is tungsten and can't be resized; I'm having it replaced.

Ours have design elements that go all around the bands, so resizing them so they appear to be seamless is going to be tricky. In the meantime I'm wearing a titanium Edward Mirell that was a little too small for me when I got it at 285. It's a little loose, but not as bad. It's kind of cool though to wear such a massive ring and have it weigh next to nothing.
