Haven't RODE IN OVER 5 YEARS AND GAINED 100 LBS, I need updates for my bike
I havent rode my bike in over 5 years and had been working third shift and gained 100 lbs in the last 5 years. I went for a ride tonight and bent my rim. Does anyone have an idea of better quality ribs for a 315 pouder? I also feel like the dont stick out far enought to a guy his space and adiquately allow me to place my feet flat on the peddals. Do I need another crank or wider peddles. Finally my gut has gotten to large and I have difficulty reaching my handle bars.
Please someone help me out? I am working with a low buget. Does anyone have any suggestion to help me out?
thanks for your help in advance....

Others can suggest some bikes for you. You might want to look for the suggested rides on Craigslist. How tall are you? How old? What kind of bike have you been riding?

What was the tires' pressure when the rim was bent? It could have been damaged due to deflated tires, not because of your weight.

Welcome to the forums! Congrats on making the choice to change your life. Give us a bit more information about what your riding, make and model, and size if you know it. How tall are you? I think a local bike shop might be able to get you fit for a bike and might be able to work with your budget. You are in good company and these guys can get you the information you want.

Really depends what kind of bike you're riding, but I also have to agree with the tire pressure comments. I'm over 350 and I'm riding a set of Mavic Crossrides that have held up surprisingly well but I run high tire pressures too. Before that I used to run Sun Rhyno Lites.

Thank you All!!
I have a 01 or 02 Giant Recon SE 21.5 inch frame, The bike is all stock no extra modifications.
I am 40 years old and weigh 315 and 5' 11'.
I actually aired the tires up before the ride to the top end at 65PSI. I think we rode like 6 miles. I got off the bike and not only did I talk like a monkey but now I walked like one also. Its amazing how painfull that seat is when it hasnt been used in a long time. Do you any of you buy wider seats? Also I had problems with my ankles rolling over like the peddles didnt stick out far enough to give me space and well as leaning over to reach the bars.
Like I said I would need to upgrade my bike on a budget or sell it and get another. I will just be riding the sidewalks for now to try to get into shape. It would be awesome to ride my bike to work and save money. But I live on the NE side of Columbus Ohio and work on the south end, 20 miles the way the crow flyes and through rough neighbor hoods. I think its like 25 to 26 miles using I270.
Any suggestions are appreacited. I just need to some things to look up using craigslist or e-bay to add aftermarket parts.
thanks everyone the pointers in advance.
