My BMI has dipped below 30 for the first time in years. So I'm no longer classed as "obese" based on by BMI, but "overweight". It's marginal - last I calculated it was something like 29.87 but it's the right side of that dividing line and I'm pleased

WooHoo! Keep chipping away and you'll be solidly in the middle of the category before you know it.

Very good!

I never really thought about that as a goal but I would think I might just add in another short term goal to become overweight as opposed to graduating from clydesdale status.

Thanks for the idea and congrats.

It never really registered for me as a goal - here in England weight is often listed in stones where one stone is 14 pounds. So where someone would be 280 in the US, over here they'd be 20 stone. If they lost 4 points they'd be 276, or 19 stone 10. So all the way my goals have been in terms of half-stones, and then just out of curiosity I checked my BMI and found I had dropped to "overweight" status.

I'd like to drop another 30-40 pounds, right now I think if I lost much more I'd be too thin, although to get into "normal weight" territory according to BMI figures I'd need to drop 40-50 from what I recall. Maybe I'll reconsider when the next 20 or so have come off.

Thanks for all the congratulations and good wishes. The funny thing is I only bought the bike so I could get around easier, and then found how much I love cycling.

That does sound like a good threshold to pass. I checked and find I'm just on the wrong side of it at a BMI of 30.3. A couple more pounds to lose and I too can be just overweight.

You've also given me a new measure of my worst - 20 stone or 280 lbs. Though at my height that's only a BMI of 32.6, so I haven't come all that far.

I've also just graduated from obese to overweight. Next objective is to get below clydesdale category (about 5 more lbs to < 200), and eventually get the BMI to "normal".

My worst was 287, and for me as soon as I went over 20 stone it was like a psychological milestone had been broken. Partly because I remember growing up my parents had a scale that only went up to 20 stone and the thought of being "off the scale" wasn't pleasant. Now I'm hovering between 240-245. Although the weight loss in absolute terms isn't all that much - 45-odd pounds in about 9 months - the increase in fitness and strength is remarkable.

Good effort... 5 pounds means you're almost there. At my height I'm not sure if I'll ever stop being a Clyde, but if I could get down to 200-210 I'd be happy with that.

I'm firmly stuck at 20 stone (yes, I like that measure...). I've lost some weight since having my left knee replaced 9 months ago, but stupid little injuries are keeping me from really getting back on the wagon... No matter, I'm6'3" so will always be a Clyde!!!

Congrats.

Congrats! This got me thinking -- I have had myself in the "obese" range just based on memory. My memory was wrong, thank goodness. I am in the overweight crew, too.

Congrats! I just recently hit a milestone myself, having reached a healthy BMI for the first time in years or perhaps even ever depending on how far off my scale was four years ago. If I can do it, so can you!
