1st ride in over a year
Back issues and then back surgery have kept me off the bike over a year. Finally allowed to do a easy ride, so we did a 15 miler. It was a perfect morning, about 70 derees and sunny. Rolled along about 15 mph, just in heaven. I can't tell you how good it felt to be back out on the bike. Yahoo! Headed down to the beach and over to the farmer's market for a snack. What a perfect day. I can't remember feeling that good on the bike in a long time. It's almost Saturday again and time for another ride.

The list was long. Arthritis, disc degeneration, thickening ligiments and some bone chips. The biggest issue was bulging discs and pinched nerves. Surgery was decompressive laminectomy. It opened up the nerve channels so that there is no more pain. The after care is a lot of PT and it goes very slowly. The surgery was in early August, but I won't be able to surf, ski, or snowboard until Jan or Feb. I want to be better now.

surfjimc, that's awesome! I had a disk injury back in 2000 so unfortunately.... I feel ya! I did not have a surgery but know how it feels to be limited, glad you can get back out there!
Allen, keep riding, strength and distance WILL come with more riding. My first ride was about a mile before I had to jump off of the bike, that was back in 2009, now my "regular" ride is 20 miles and I do 5 mile "workout rides" going balls out on an ALL hill course that I ride around my area a couple times per week.
