April Fools, aka the 100+ mile-a-month challenge

Chefisaac didn't start this one which is most unusual so I'll do it, being in the UK and so up while most of you guys are probably still sleeping.

I don't mind posting, last month I thought you'd slipped and was all about to do it for you only to find you'd already done it.

As long as it gets done that's what matters, even though since this one was started in GREAT Britain I hope all my fellow larger riders (from anywhere in the world) get to bask in a bit of greatness this month :)

I recommend using bikejournal to keep track of mileage. It is easy to use and free, unless you want a bunch of extra fields.

Like last month I am going to be traveling quite a bit this month as we make our way north. I have no idea how much I will ride. The last half of the month I'll be at our Iowa condo and should get good riding in. However, I am going to go more for quality than quantity when in Iowa as there are a lot of hills and I want to work the hills. So, I'll be conservative and say 200 miles.

Mithrandir 04-01-12 07:54 AM

Hit 250 last month, and I missed a week. So let's aim for 350 or higher.

TrojanHorse 04-01-12 08:25 AM

I hit 222 last month so 250 ho!

Cant ride today though.

rec3036 04-01-12 09:32 AM

I am in and going to shoot for 200...

not a bad start for me (played hookie from work:innocent:) with 17 mile ride this morning! oh yeah and was riding with 2 of my bosses:twitchy::twitchy: Wooo Hooooo !

:D bring on the nice weather:D!

lenny866 04-01-12 10:10 AM

I hit 260 last month. They were quality miles and I upped my avg mph by one. I'm very happy with that...I pushed myself hard.

I would like to increase my running. I only ran 5 days last month and would like to bring that up. So my April goals will be 10 times running and 200 miles on the bike (while maintaining my new avg speed).

I hope mother nature and the kids sports schedules cooperate!

Thanks Gold. I like to write it the old fashioned way by hand and in a calender that sits on my desk at work. Feels great to look at it.

I am just glad that one of us remembers! :) I am getting old and forgetful. Throw work in there and it messes me up! :)

chefisaac 04-01-12 03:12 PM

4-1: 40 miles. Nothing says "welcome to april" then a 40 mile ride!

Tractortom 04-01-12 04:13 PM

I'm on-board! I'll shoot for 400 miles again this month. Had 430+ in March, but it took a Metric Century on the last day of the month to make it happen. That's 100 miles a week, a good goal for me.

Tractor Tom in Okeechobee, FL

Cyclist0084 04-01-12 04:16 PM

Okay, I'm in again this month; this time around I'm going to shoot 235 miles (up from 200 in March).

Chef,
An even 40 sounds suspicious... BTW I too recommend the free bikejournal tracking site.:thumb:

April kickoff,
Rode the mountain bike to the Bass River Rec. area, took the long route there up river to the next bridge. More riders than I've seen in the past. Did a few laps and headed home on the south side, shorter route. Came in just under 50, so I rode up to park to run across the soccer field and to get over 50.

4/1 - 4 miles

Crafted some bar wrap out of an old tire tube for my SS project and just had to test it out. So far its much comfier then the athletic tape I had on the bars.

caphits 04-02-12 01:45 AM

I'm back. Count me in for 300.
4-2 20 miles.
4-4 10 miles.
4-21 20 miles.

I use Excel. Allows me to track heart rates, the elevation gain, miles, time and then I can use the math functions to get averages, sums etc.

IBOHUNT 04-02-12 06:49 AM

Spring turkey season starts in 2 weeks. Probably not a lot of biking going to happen but I'm in for 300 miles and 10,000'
