Hi....again...
Tried to get back into cycling a couple of years ago in Southern California. I loved the SART, but could never seem to build my stamina up. Finally, going back to school sunk my plans.
Moved to Florida at the beginning of the year after my father passed away, and discovered why I felt so bad and made no progress...I'm now diabetic! Diet has changed, and I MUST lose 50 pounds. Been pulling the bicycle collection out and servicing them to get active.
Right now I am 245 pounds (have been as high as 289, but knocked it back to 198...then injury took my ability to excercise away). Have been walking some, and did 5 miles on a 29'er tonight. Would like to get to the point of Touring as a goal overall.
Trying to avoid getting put on insulin, as it will destroy my dreams of becoming a pilot. Anybody else here dealing with diabetes and riding? I welcome any input/ help on the subject.

'pre diabetic' here... the really good news here is that if you can lose weight, there's a great chance that you can be both symptom and medication free.
Exercise is of course important, but diet is probably more so. See if your doctor / medical clinic offers some sort of nutrition class - becoming aware of what your limits are is really important.
good luck!

Thanks for the replies! I have looked up the local "Tour de Cure" and will aim towards taking part in it. Also, the wife is pre-diabetic and has agreed to get on the bicycle and join me as a rider.....now to get all the bikes back in tip-top shape...!
