SoCal Family Ride

Now that SuperGimp TH is back on the bike we should plan the Clyde Forum family ride! Sebastian is of the opinion that I am lying to him and there are really no other kids that ride road bikes, let alone with their parents. Help me prove him wrong.
If the stars align, We would be my wife and i on the tandem, Meckena and Sebastian on their singles.

Location suggestions? Dates?

Missed it by a month, but the L.A. River Ride has a family ride. Most organized centuries also have some type of shorter family ride. I can't remember the name, but all the local bike shops carry a free newspaper type of cycling rag that lists all of the upcoming charity rides. It covers from San Diego up to about San Luis Obispo.

Thank you
I guess i should have been more specific in saying a Clyde Forum family ride. There was some interest expressed in doing this back when we did the GMR rides.

As far as organized rides, our family (minus the wife) did the Palm Springs Century and are all signed up to do the Bike the Coast 50 miler in November.

Not as much vertical as coming from Harrah's but still a 12ish mile climb to the store + a few more to the Observatory and allot less traffic.

Uh.....HELLO**********

Cupcakes rides a really nice road bike. He should approve!

We'd be in, depending on the date. Cupcakes is into the cheerleading thing now, so I'm not sure what her schedule will be. She has expressed interest, though.

I think SART would be a good call because we can set the distance we want. I don't have access to my home calendar right now, so no input on dates.

IMHO - a climbing ride may not be the best "first 'group' ride" for the younger riders.

I'm about to disable the big ring. She lives on it. I'd like to see her spin more!

And to clarify for those who don't know the story - I'm not bragging about how nice of a bike my kid has. Though don't get me wrong, it's one of the nicest road bikes I've seen under a kid of this size in a very long time. This weekend I saw two of the little Pinerllos out on the trails, but those come with 2300. This has Ultegra rear! OK, enough. My comment to ahultin is simply because this bike used to be Sebastian's, thus, he should know there is at least one kid with a road bike!!!!

I'm still trying to get my son out of the small ring! (it's a triple) He's not ready for any nasty hills yet, so no Palomar thanks. I don't think I'm ready for it either, come to think of it. Any one of the rivers trails would be fine though. Our schedules are always jammed so just pick a day and I'll see if I can work it in.

My 10 y/o grandson has a real road bike. His 5 y/o brother has a smaller bike, albeit 5 speed with drops bars and cages. The youngster is a real spinner; he's got a big motor for a little guy.

That won't work for the PJ family. TrojanHorse, tunavic and I (and hopefully others) will be riding the Cool Breeze century on the 17th. Wanna come join us for that?

Crossing my fingers I can do the Cool Breeze. If you guys are going to do SART or something...similar....The Unlikely Cyclist is a great jumping off point for several nice routes starting in Costa Mesa plus there is access to bathroom, water and any last minute essentials pre-ride. Just a thought.

I'm still trying to wangle the time off for cool breeze - my daughter is having her 13th birthday party that day (with slumber party, heaven help me) so I'm negotiating to get that moved to the 16th, and my parents are flying in at about 11 on Saturday, so I'm negotiating to get my wife to pick them up.

So far so good but it could get ugly at the last minute.

Considering doing the cool breeze as well, so we'd probably be out on that day.

I haven't seen eja_bottecchia post in a while but I'm pretty sure he will be at Cool Breeze. He did mention the Channel Island Bike Club is home club.

So PhotoJoanne dropped a bombshell on me last night. My oldest daughter will be out of town this weekend, so Mrs. PJ said the three of us should go do the SART ride. WHAT? She does listen. She even got the name right! So, Sunday (7/28), we're going to ride the SART. Anyone who wants to join is welcome. We need to get an early start, so apologies if it's too early, but we're going to plan to ride at 8am. We think Cupcakes is ready for about 30 miles, so we're going to start just south of Angels Stadium and ride to the beach 12.5 miles. For those of you who know where Beanz parks, that's where we're going.

Alright, I think I'm tentatively in depending on whether I can convince Horse Jr. I was going to see if I could squeeze in a long ride Sunday (swim finals all day saturday) but I might be able to do both.

Sebastian and I are in for Sunday
Still working on the girls so they are a maybe, we are having Meckena's 16th birthday party on Saturday at the beach so they have to be there from 7am to 8pm to reserve the pit. The Mrs has indicated that if she has life left in her she will ride (tandem)
TH, this is the same place you and I met correct?
