well I had hoped this would be my post showing off my new Surly Disc trucker... I'd even typed up my build info yesterday before I picked up the frame...

I had the shop swap my headset as I don't have the proper tools for it and I'd made that part of the deal of buying the frame...

so here we start at home after the shop had installed the headset


when I went to install the wheels they didn't fit in correctly...


so I called the shop, stripped everything off and back to the LBS, new frame has been ordered but won't be in till next week... until then I sit with no bike (my other frame is stripped)

on the plus side the LBS is real kewl about it all.... so hopefuly next week I'll get to post my real build thread...

ya I thought something looked funny to it just left it at the fact that I'm use to MTB's that fit 2.5" tires thinking it was just the narrowness of the stays...

the color isn't pretty for sure but it is nice to move away from the standard black on the surly bikes I've had before... i'm not a huge fan but it is very utilitarian lol ... can't wait to get a good frame to build up and get some miles on it

I've always liked the Blue. Back when I bought mine it was only between the Blue or the Green.

Good color. I thought you measured the dropouts from outside to outside?

Nope from the inside spacing since that is universal no matter the frame materials.

track drop outs are 110mm-120mm pending yr
classic roadie are 125ish mm
modern roadie is 130mm
MTB is 135mm
New Modern MTB is 142mm

and front drop out standard is 100mm (road or MTB) although fat bikes and some other MTBs are going to 135mm

mine will be similar to zuk88's over on MTBR


using the same bar type but shimano dual controls... some wide 28mm rims... but won't have racks or fenders untill I get another bike in the stable.

ya hopefuly by next spring it'll have racks and fenders and be ready for some light touring... with kids, a wife and full time school I won't be able to pull anything bit off... but going for a night or two would be fun

Light touring is something that I'd really like to get into. I've never read/ heard anything bad about the Surleys. Right now, though, I have too many other hands reaching for my few available dollars so it's something a bit further down the road for me.

they are heavy... there ya go ... I've now had a karate monkey and a 1x1... I like surly... the 1x1 wasn't a perfect fit but the karate monkey was perfect... I also had a big fat larry tire on the front of my MTB for a while (1/2 fat)... they make frames that I have to worry about riding as a 300# rider but they aren't for everyone

Not sure what happened on the rear dropouts but I am totally sold on Surly's. Earlier this year I build a Pacer and it's a great riding bike.
