I think a lot of discussion like this amounts to excuses to justify fat, like saying, "Oh, but I have big bones!" or "Oh, it's all muscle!"
I don't think I've ever heard a thin person say that their doctor told them to fatten up some for their health. The only people worried about being too thin always seem to be too thick.
I don't buy that. I'm 6'2", broad shouldered and barrel chested. At one point I had almost no fat on me and was very fit. I hovered right around 205 (204-209) for over a year. I probably could've traded 5 pounds of fat for 5 pounds of muscle, but even if I had just lost it, I'd still be about 200 pounds. I haven't consulted BMI in forever because I think it's a poor tool, but IIRC, it said I should weigh 180. No way I could get down to 180 without being unhealthy, yet BMI was saying I was 25 pounds overweight!

Sadly, right now, I have to lose nearly a hundred pounds to get down to what I consider a healthy weight for my frame. Time to knuckle down and start eating right, doesn't matter how many calories I burn if I keep taking in more than that, and garbage to boot.

Sooooo, I dug up the body fat measuring thing (hold it in your hands, it produces a number).
I realize that this is simplistic, but it seems to back up my idea that 170 lbs will be good for me, as that would put me at 20% body fat (good for a girl). Right now I'm at 40%. Oh yeah. 94 pounds of lard. Lose 60 of that and that should be right around my goal weight. Ask me again December and I'll know.

Any preppers here in a case when SHTF? More body fat is better! You will last longer without food...stores will be empty in no time and there will be no new deliveries anymore lol

+1. I'm 5'10'', was 185 in high school, 190 in college. Currently at 224, I'm hoping to get close to 200, but I agree, I will feel a lot better losing a few inches in the belly...
