Too soon? GMR to Village with some Unlikely Cyclists - Sunday April 27, 2014

BeachGrad et al, I'm 90% in. I might have either my wife or my daughter with me (both of whom can presumably climb better than me, so no, I can't use them as an excuse to stop... lol). I'm looking forward to another shot at the shack, and possibly, the village.

Definitely bring your wife and daughter!! If you can make it to shack...you can make it to the village. Just need enough water.

You know, we have a snappy term for people sitting around pointing fingers... "Blamestorming"
We need a similarly snappy phrase or word for the excuse making, but I'm not coming up with anything at the moment.

Beachgrad, I'm going to try to switch some things around at work so I can make it. I'll know in a day or two.

Yikes! I used mapmyride to check out GMR to the shack and it looks like it climbs from 1000 ft up to about 3400 ft?
I couldn't tell what the gradients were but I must admit I'm a little nervous.

BG, I was looking forward to this ride but unfortunately I won't be able to make it. I'll be at work while you folks are having fun. Enjoy!

Here is my most recent Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/123080414
And here is a video of a ride with several Clydes and Athena's to show you it CAN be done even for us gravity challenged folks.
This was second time riding with gate closed due to fire hazard. It was a hot day and I struggled but I still made it. This one shows the SHACK...my GoPro died on previous one before getting to shack:
Here is the day I set my PR to date:

You'll have company...a few or most of the team ladies are only planning on the shack. I won't say its easy but I will say it is doable and more mental. You can stop and rest, enjoy the views as much as you like too. The grade is never so bad that getting going again is difficult.

@Ursa Minor and @HunkerDown - Was so nice to meet you both this morning. I know it was a long drive for both of you.
HunkerDown: Sure hope you made it to the Village and Lifts.
Ursa Minor has beautiful classic Romulus bike with a dream climbing gear 22x38! I will let Charlie tell of his experience with GMR.
Here they both are pre-ride (HunkerDown on left...Ursa Minor on right):
Here is one of my teammates in Bianchi jersey and her friend (future teammate):
Here is Lisa and her husband Sam. Lisa is the rider who was knocked down by an A#*hat jerk on the Palm Springs Century this past February. She broke her upper arm near the shoulder. She is a real trooper and is getting her strength back rather quickly. She has not been cleared to mountain bike yet but she is able to road ride. Her husband is talented on the mountain bike. He came today with a single speed mountain bike. He rode up to the Shack with his wife then rode the trail down the mountain rather than GMR.
Of course Vntgdrms (Lisa) who owns and operates The Unlikely Cyclist in Costa Mesa (a women specific bike shop and she can SHIP. I highly recommend her if you are needing Athena sized gear and want better options)
Here is Marni who is such a fantastic person and teammate.
Here is Charlie reaching the Shack and I took photo either too soon or too late..as he was giving me the thumbs UP!!!
