What kind of shoes do you commute in?
I just picked up a NOS pair of Shimano SH-FN51 shoes on eBay and I'm in love!
It's too bad Shimano discontinued these; they are the most comfy cycling shoes I have ever experienced in over 45 years of riding. Yes, they are intended for indoor spinning but for my commuting and weekend rides up and down the SoCal coast they are perfect. Too much ventilation for cold or wet weather, but I won't ride when it's crummy out so that's not an issue.
LOVE the BOA system...

Commuting foot ware-
temp above freezing - prefer Chrome Kursk
below freezing - LLBean Snow Sneakers
looking for a new above freezing shoe, I wear a size 14 or 15 (depending upon shoe), Chrome stopped making 14s. - boo Chrome.

I use some worn out Shimano mountain bike shoes that have been modified for a semi-midfoot cleat position. Prior to that, it was the orange pair of shoes from the Shimano Click'R series. Whatever floats your boat, man.

I've got two pairs of pull-on steel-cap boots, one pair are elastic-sided the other come up my calf somewhat.
The latter pair I ride when I'm on the mountain bike since I can tuck my trouser/overalls leg down them to prevent the front sprocket from having a munch. (The other bikes have a guard to stop that.)

Whatever mountain bike SPDs I got on sale when my last pair wore out. Currently a pair of Settes that I think I got for $30. I've been wearing them every day summer and winter for at least 5 years now. The velcro is getting a bit weak but apart from that they don't appear to have worn any. They're perfectly comfortable to wear just walking around.

Whatever shoes I'm wearing. Plastic pedals with roomy plastic clips and nylon straps, not very tight (I tighten them down occasionally... doesn't matter much).

I use shimano shmt-43 (they look like grey hiking shoes, but have spd cleats). I use them with pedals that have spd on one side, and platform on the other...so I can use flat shoes if I want to.

Converse when it's warm enough for me to bike in shorts
slip-on Keds when it's warm-ish, but I'm still wearing leggings (makes changing at work easier)
LL Bean Bean Boots between 40 and 5 degrees
and Gore-Tex LaCrosse winter boots (that effectively look like Bean Boots) between 5 and -35
I won't ride below that...
Basically, I prefer shoes with rounded toes that fit nice in my toe clips and that I owned before I started riding/didn't have to buy anew...
