If you feel the need to socialize and meet other commuters, and you are in an area with a good number of commuters, might I suggest one morning when you aren't pressed to be at work immediately, that you bring a couple of carafes of good coffee and some pastries or bagels,etc.. and position yourself at a location that invites folks to 'drop by'. My friend "Captain Pastry" has used this ploy to good stead for years here in Portland. Community building via the stomach.
