Craigslist advice
Hello friendly folks,
I've been reading around here for a while as I prepare to buy my first bike that I will use mainly to commute to school daily. Based on much of the advice, I've chosen to steer clear of BD as long as I can, which leaves CL as my only option for my tiny budget. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to take a look at this posting and let me know what you think. Being a complete newcomer to bike buying (my best bike as a child was from Walmart), reading specs is like reading a different language. Thanks so much in advance! Here's the link: 57 cm. "Specialized Globe Vienna 2" * CITY / COMMUTER * Fenders / Rack
Please forgive me if this is the wrong section to post this in!

Biggest thing is - will it fit you? Doesn't matter if it is all carbon with Ultegra or SRAM Red on there, if the bike doesn't fit, don't bother. It seems like an alright deal if that is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply. Obviously I'd have to try it out for fit. No use doing that if it's not a good deal right? Anyway, I'm 6'2" and a very detailed online bike-fitting tool suggested 58cm. For the price, perhaps 1 cm is t too much of a difference?

If it's otherwise what you're looking for, I wouldn't let a 1 cm difference dissuade you from trying it out. I find that I can comfortably fit bikes between 54cm to 56 cm.

A bike like that for around $200 is great deal. It's already got the rack and fenders--things you'll need for a commuter bike anyway, which could run you an extra $50-100 if you had to purchase them separately.
I say go for it, if it fits, even if you pay the list price.

Sweet bike. If it fits, buy it.
As an aside, Austin has so much better prices on CL than San Antonio.

Does it ever rain in Texas?
You may not need the fenders most of the time.
It looks like a good enough bike for moderate commuting. How long is your ride?
Sizing of a sloping downtube bike is complex. The head tube looks like it is closer to what would be expected on a 62cm bike. The seat tube, on a smaller bike. The 700c wheel size is good. The handlebar stems are easy to replace, and can be sourced a bit larger... at least to a point. Ultimately, you will need to just try it out.

57 cm (or 58 also) seems small for someone 6'2" for that kind of setup. But if it's truly only one cm small than your ideal size that wouldn't even be on my radar as a problem. Bike shop fitters will pitch a fit about my saying this but you can move the saddle one cm, or a half and use a longer stem and it will make no difference in how it rides compared to a larger frame.

Thank you everyone for your comments, which were exactly what I was looking for. Yesterday we had a real downpour (7 in. In some places), so yes it does rain out here quite a bit. I'll see to trying it out and let yall know. Thanks again!
Oh and a typical ride will be 3 miles one way to the park and ride, then a bit on campus.

That bike would be listed for twice that in my area.
Or gone before you contacted them at that price.
