I've seen a lot more Black bicycle lately than in years past. It seems that Black is in with almost every bicycle comany. Has anyone noticed this? I don't mind the color but why Black? Is it cheaper to paint a bike then other colors?

Black or dark grey is my favourite colour for a bicycle frame. I won't buy and ride anything else.

My REI Novara Gotham is black. I happen to like it, it gives the bike an, almost, vintage look.

Bikes in black are fast.

Chips and scratches can be touched up with a marks-a-lot.

Basically because I drool a little whenever I see a black Felt...

They look cool, my only problem them with is that they blend into the road.

Black absorbs light, and warms the frame. Since heat rises, it makes your bike lighter by at least 10 pounds.

Turbo's black, Leader's black... both are gorgeous, only one came that way stock though. I do see what you mean, black is way more prevalent now than before.. I don't think I own any bikes that came from the factory black pre the 2000's.

Black is good if you want to blend in with the crowd. Maybe it is less attractive to thieves, although it hides dirt better, which could make it more attractive.

It seems to make some guys feel more manly. Black on black, murdered out. You see it in ghetto culture also, tinted windows, etc.

Black on black just seems dull and boring to me. *shrug*.

My Trek 7.3 FX is black. It was either black or slimy, flu booger green. But I've made every effort to accent the bike with other colors.

There have always been black bikes and fans of black bikes... I was never one of them until last year though.

i recently picked up my first ever black bike.

it's matte black, so it's extra cool.

but it's a folder, so it's also weird.

That is sweet. I can see how fantastic it would be to have that bike for a commute in the city if you work in an office building. Love it.
Digging your bike, too. I like the crank. The crank on my bike sucks, aesthetically speaking. Looks like an internally geared rear hub? Or a fixie? Nice.

It was the best of a bad situation in my case. I wanted red but they didn't have it in my size and the wholesaler said it might take a week or two just to find. The dark green wasn't bad but didn't like the decals

Yeah, flip flop but I've never used the freewheel side.



I put chrome fenders on for the winter - shop didn't have any black ones, I didn't think I'd like chrome but I do.
Didn't think I'd like that chain protector either, but it's hardly noticeable.

Thanks, but my new dahon folder is not my regular commuter, I bought it for the occasional times when a folder just comes in really handy.

My everyday commuter is a bright red motobecane fantom disc CX bike from bikesdirect.

Black is cool but flat black is what I really like. When I bought mine it was the first one that grabbed my attention, had to have flat black then.

How did I miss that one?!?!?! Or have I already fawned over it... it makes me want to rebuild my leader as a city bike.

I think the former is true (and why I like black or dark color), but the latter is not--thieves more likely prefer to steal bikes that are hard to spot.

If you paint the rims black this is more like a 100 pounds because of the unsprung weight thing.

Black bikes have an understated stealth look, unless the manufacturer plasters them with decals, which is the case with many carbon bikes. I've had two black bikes and really liked the look for commuting, but unfortunately both bikes (both Gunnars, coincidentally) did not fit me very well and I sold them. I particularly like the combination of black and tan components, as in my Gunnar Sport. The red-and-black Crosshairs was a homage to my alma mater, the Georgia Bulldogs.

Touring bike, 1 is black powder coat, panniers and rain covers woad blue..


Not in what My jacket color is, it's bright when the weather is darker... I do wear black pants, to hide chain shmuz contact.
