I've heard that. I also collect photos of them and used to post them on a Facebook page regularly. I don't bother anymore.

Monday morning it was a well-mangled raccoon. It was not sleeping, it was not pining for the fjords, it was an ex-raccoon. Blech.

That's a GOOD raccoon, IMO.

Thursday and Friday I found otters! Five or six otters in the bay, I think hunting fish; they were swimming in a big circle, and a few yards behind them was a cluster of gulls on the water. Must've been a big school of fish. I stood there on the MUT for several minutes, carefully not moving, as they were less than 20 feet away. It was the coolest thing.

I've also been seeing amazing sunsets, courtesy of the horrifying wildfires nowhere near us.

More mangled raccoons and a couple of skunks. Natural selection thinning out this year's youngsters? Gruesome.

Last night on the way home in the dark, I almost didn't see it, but there was a flock of mallard ducks in the river right at the edge.

My rat report is too disgusting to impart.

Last year I saw 2 sections of aluminum ladder, 6 foot each, laying in a ditch mostly hidden in the weeds. When I got home I jumped into my vehicle and went to see if they were still there. I now have a 12 foot ladder of my own. Comes in very handy doing cleaning/maintenance on the outside of my house. Two summers ago I saw what I thought was some trash blowing across the road. When I got closer I thought it looked like it might be US currency. I stopped and picked it up, 3 twenties, 1 ten and 3 one dollar bills. Nobody anywhere near so I rode on with $73 more than I had before I left home.

Rain and puddles of water..

I find sockets. A lot. Never once have I found one in a reasonable size. Last one? 1/4" drive, 9/32". I don't think I've ever used a 9/32" socket in my entire life.

Snakes

At this time of year when I ride along the river paths my eyes are always on the ground looking out for snakes rather than lost money or other useful stuff.

A complete 622mm front clincher wheel, only missing skewer/tire/tube.
Looked to be low end components, and I didn't want to lug it 15 miles home.
Last seen it was off the South side of the US36 Bike Path, close to Table Mesa Dr.

Yesterday on my return city commute, I found an 18v Bosch impact screwdriver. It was obviously kicked to the side by a car tire and the battery was cracked, but it still worked. It got me to wondering. As cyclists, we have a pretty good view of the road, I'll bet people have found some interesting things lying in the street.

What are some of the things you have found while riding?

I've been biking a long time. I've found bras, panties, men's underwear, pics of naked people and, And, AND a dead body.

Someone else came across a body being removed from a river and wrote about it here. I'm glad the guy I found was just too drunk to move and not dead.

Hair weaves. Every style, color, and length. I used to post them on a Facebook page but deleted it last year. "Tumble Weaves" is what people here call them. Maybe I'll post them here.

That may have been me. I found a floater but didn't stick around for the removal. Maybe around 2008 or 09. Called the cops, pointed it out, went on to work.

Skipjacks 11-27-18 11:59 AM

AlI ever find are screws.

I do try to stop and pick them up since I drive on these same roads.

RubeRad 11-27-18 12:36 PM

Why stop, you can pick them up much more efficiently with your tires if you ride straight over them

That sounds like what I was thinking.

I'm an EXPERT at doing that in my car. At 60 mph without even seeing a screw or nail I can hit the little bugger every time. Right on the non repairable sidewall too!

That's talent.

While not technically found on the ground, I found these yesterday.

Still, awesome none the less.

noglider 11-27-18 07:37 PM

Awesome is the right word for an eagle, and it's an overused and misused word, but this time, it fits. Awesome!

RubeRad 11-28-18 12:47 PM

Earlier in the evolution of English, instead of "Awesome", the word was "Awful" (or "Aweful")

Since you asked :popcorn I was headed to work and something looked different on the side of the road. I kept on going but remembered to stop at the same spot on the ride home. Apparently a man was walking home from the bars and got hit. His body was about 20 off the road so hard to see unless you are looking into the weeds like I was. I like to look for wildlife on my commutes. I guess you could say I found something wild but no life...

Korina 11-29-18 10:22 AM

BikingTech, that'll put a damper on your day. Not as much as his, but still. I gather it was a hit and run? His poor family.

A Blinky Super Flash tail light. Still blinking when I found it on the trail last summer.
