i ride through the mean side streets of south st louis on my commute. One of the things seen not particularly rarely is the lone, discarded hair extension/weave. We refer to these as "tumbleweaves". While the common weave, tumbleweavus vulgaris, is found regularly, i have also seen, on occasion, the more rare tumbleweavus braidus, a complete braided ponytail. All sorts of things, but I only stop to pick up tools and paper money. Recently, a flat screwdriver and a drywall wide putty knife. Farther back - 1/4" drive full socket set, 16" Craftsman adjustable wrench (score!), and a nice folding carpet knife. Loose allen wrenches. Loose sockets - of all kinds. Sometimes a useful box or combination wrench, especially 15mm ratcheting ones.
I'm holding in my hand a Park Tool AWS-9 multi-tool that I found on the road once. It's now in my commuting handlebar bag! |

I found while mountain biking once a cat eye taillight blinking. I picked it up and rode to the parking lot and asked a few people if they lost it. No one had. So I kept it and then while riding in SC when my in laws lived there. It must have fallen out of my pannier pocket. I rode back next day to look for it and I could not find it. :( Easy come Easy Go.

I see tools and other stuff, but if I'm out for a 30+ mile ride I'm not going to carry a 12" adjustable wrench for 25 miles. |

For now it has been in the accessory loop on the back of my son's seatbag, with a rubber band looped around a few times on the bottom to make sure it can't bounce out. A rubber band shouldn't have time to dryrot away before it needs to be taken off and charged. But I plan to buy a rackmount, hopefully that's a nice positive connection.

The usual things: tools, penknives, money, lights, bungees... but the most weird was a tiny black handmade casket about 20cm long. Must belong to a cult or something like that.

This is off-topic but a friend of mine found a bale of marijuana floating off the Florida keys while out fishing. He call the authorities to turn it in and they were going to confiscate his boat until he called his attorney. Justice is just a roll of the dice... |

That's one complaint I read about for those, is they fall off. If you don't mind charging it on the bike (a pain, I bet) you could use a zip tie to hold it to the mount. Mine hasn't fallen off yet, and it sure is bright.

Late 90's - I travelled across the state to do a favorite ride with a friend of mine. It was on a Sunday, so we parked in a bank parking lot near the start of the loop. I found a driver's license sitting on the ground under the drive through window drawer.
What are the chances? It was an old friend of mine who lost it! Now get this - - - - it was an old friend who I hung out with in Hawaii in the early 80's (I didn't know he moved to Florida) and had not seen or heard from since the 80's in Hawaii. I still have a hard time understanding the chances of something like that happening. |
