Here It Is: The Winter Workwear Primer

Hi All,

Just popped over from the Touring forum to offer up a primer I wrote for my personal website (Max, The Cyclist).

I'm going on my third winter out here in the Northeast, so I wrote up a little list of the commuter clothes I wear. I'm splitting this into "Workwear" and "Outerwear," so here's Part I:

How To Bike Commute In The Winter, Part I: Workwear

Enjoy!

Nice job on the blog, I think I've read the whole thing.

gotta agree on the stretch Zion pants, I have 4 pairs and you'll rarely see me in anything else.

Thanks for the list! Most of that is out of my price range, but I really like those pants, which happen to be affordable to me. I just wear bike specific clothes when riding....insulated tights, long sleeve jersey, coat, something for my face and gloves. Luckily, being in the south I don't need much more than that.

I have come to appreciate the convenience of wearing most of my work outfit while on the bike. Generally, my dress shirt gets stuffed in my bag, and my pants/baselayer/shoes are on the bike. It keeps my backpack lighter (i.e, not full of clothing).

If it's raining, snowing, or even slightly slushy, I have to wear the rain gear, but on nice days it's cool to wear your work pants on the bike! If I were wearing slacks, I would not be comfortable (given how fast I like to ride), but the Zion's are good stuff.
