What gets me almost in a rage is when I bungee my bag to the back rack, somehow the front wheel turns, rolls and the whole bike falls over. Someday I’ll get a kickstand. What gets me almost in a rage is when I bungee my bag to the back rack, somehow the front wheel turns, rolls and the whole bike falls over. Someday I’ll get a kickstand.

^^^^ Just get a strap to connect the downtube to the front wheel. Velcro works for me. Or one for the front brake lever. Easy fix. And try some decaf.

Since you duplicated your sentence in your post, you should get a double kickstand like the one I just got.

And a front wheel stabilizer spring.

According to my old Army buddies who served over there, it's verbalization of a gesture we like to use...a certain finger......

Is this just on a bike, or is it in multiple arenas of life?

If this is a pattern, you might benefit from some counseling and a psychiatric evaluation.

It's helped me a ton.

If you look at his post history, I would believe it spans into multiple arenas of his life. He also likes to start threads and hardly respond. Pretty sure he is gone from BF now anyway

At the risk of being the victim of one of your rage events, try this "meditation" next time:

"No one is making me ride my bicycle. It is my own choice. There are knuckleheads out there who might do me harm. This I know. But I accept the risk and ride my bicycle in traffic anyway. Knowing this, if someone honks at me, throws something, or runs me over, I AM PARTLY TO BLAME because I made a CHOICE to swim with the sharks and accepting the danger."

Or if you prefer:

Some of it is on YOU.

uh huh, and what about the people who do not have a choice but to use a bicycle to get somewhere in a timely fashion?

Taking responsibility for ones choices, and bearing the burden for the irresponsibly of others are 2 different things.

Getting somewhere in a timely manner is a personal time management issue that should have no effect on how one interacts with other road users.

Yeah but that doesn't mean the person on the bike is automatically partly to blame for the a-hole behavior of other people.

And dangit, now I have to get used to your different avatar.

Obviously not, but if one chooses to be a square peg at a round hole convention its wise to temper ones expectations.

I saw that someone else had the same avatar, so I decided to change it.

That is part of it for sure.

I used to ride motorcycles. This activity comes with a whole list of potential crippling dangers that people enclosed in metal boxes don't really have to think about. A minor fender-bender and bye-bye leg from the knee down. I have friends with just such an injury - more than one. I gave up the added danger after about 20 years of self-imposed added risk - luckily without so much as a scratch. Some really close calls, but no loss of limb or life. Had I continued motorcycling into the cellphone years, that would have surely done it anyway.

I also used to do long distance bicycle touring. Cycled around the USA and Canada - 38 states and counting. And when I wasn't doing that I was cycling around my home town up to 150 miles a day on highways and bi-ways. A few years ago, thanks in part to the cellphone craze, I gave that up entirely. I still commute, get groceries, go to the doctor and any absolutely necessary trips, but getting out on the highway is done for me. I do not own a car BTW.

As a result, I have certainly reduced my chances of getting smacked by a motor vehicle as well as being insulted verbally, or with horn blowing. I gave up "swimming with sharks". Sharks make mistakes behind the wheel besides being mean spirited at times. I can not control any of that, only MY BEHAVIOR is under my control.

So I reiterate.....if you CHOOSE to increase your risk of being verbally or physically assaulted by cycling around motor vehicles, then obviously you must ACCEPT some of the risk. Same as if you skydive, scuba-dive, fly stunt planes, or drive in the Indy 500. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU. If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen.
