21F/-6C The cold is not as bad as the head wind.
|
8 F, feels like -3 F. Yaaay... On top of that it's supposed to snow during the evenin commute. :notamused:
Yep, there was snow. But hey, that means it's warm enough to snow! |
Very cold this morning with a low of 19F, slightly higher than my coldest commute of this winter. I know it's cold when my water bottle freezes, and it was frozen at the halfway point to work this morning. I was dressed just right and stayed comfortable without sweating a bit, which can be a hard balance to hit.
The cold doesn't bother me in winter as much as the extra effort it takes to ride. It is usually windy in the winter, which makes it feel colder and requires more work. That, along with the denser air, extra clothes and tighter muscles, leads to slower speeds and more exertion required. I was really beat after arriving home last night and battling strong winds most of the way. It wasn't very windy this morning, but the colder temperatures really sapped my energy. My commute times are a solid 5 minutes slower (each way) this week compared to last week, when it was about 10-20 degrees warmer most days. |
Around 40F going home last night. Not too bad. Had one guy who made a good pass by changing lanes, but also forced the oncoming car to nearly stop completely. Arse.
|
Another sunny clear eerie lonely commute. I encountered only a single jogger in five miles.
|
opted to drive this morning because of the cold. with the ride yesterday being my coldest ever 16F and lets not talk about the windchill. THe ride home was around 26F and 10-20 mph winds. I actually had to hold the brake at some stops because the wind was pushing me from behind. It must have been behind me a lot because i did not feel like i battled much wind. I did feel it from the side time to time one time it was like I had hit pile of snow or sand it was so sudden. #nervousbutexciting
plan to ride tomorrow for winter bike to work day. |

Unseasonably warm in California, where we are expecting temps in the mid-70s here in the SF bay area. I rode to work this morning in shorts and a t-shirt. :p

Edit: Am the only one from Leonia, United States. They asked for start location not end location. Whatevs. |
Another shorts & t-shirt commute...and still I showed up all sweaty.
Yesterday was an interesting commute. I saw at least 20 cop cars, most on the prowl and others were gathered at freeway onramps. After I got to work, I did a little searching and found the reason: Very close to where I was at the time, some lunatic was brandishing a handgun and intentionally running into multiple vehicles, including two cop cars, before he was eventually arrested right along my commute route. My commute in was great! First day not having to wear a long-sleeved shirt or a jacket. My commute home was... in a car. My bike was stolen. Womp womp.
|
17F/-8C But with no wind to speak of it was really not all that bad.
|
^ Good man dcb23. I wimped out for first time this year with same temp. Took the train and subway today. This weekend will be "master b*tchin" as they used to say in Cali back in the 80's. Temps are supposed to go down to single digits on Sunday morning.

I was hoping for my first 4-commute week in a while, but forecasts for snow during the day scared me off. Traffic in our city is chaotic whenever it snows, no matter how little. The weather has been very cold here all week, below freezing most of the time, so any snow we get is likely to stick. The forecast is calling for a 50-60% chance of us getting up to 1" of snow. That may sound wimpy but our entire metro area was gridlocked one time by less than 1" of snow that fell on a very cold day when it didn't melt.

Wait, what? For real? That sucks |
About 10F this morning with a brisk head wind. Temps are supposed to continuously drop today bottoming out below zero. Thankfully the wind isn't supposed to shift, so I should get a push home tonight.
Got about an inch more of snow yesterday and the trails hadn't yet been cleared, so I could easily see the tracks from other riders. Normally I'll see about 3-5 tracks. Today there had to be at least 12. I'm suspecting that it's because it's "Winter Ride Your Bike To Work Day." Or as I like to call it: Friday. That sucks about your bike efi. |

@tarwheel i thought we were calling for snow here as well but they have changed the forcast. I have lived in Raleigh before snow scares people there almost as bad as here... Should be a downright cold day tomorrow! I plan on staying by the fire.
20F and darkness this morning but i think the sun came up sooner. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=504080 |
Mid to upper 40s today on the way in but no wind. For Florida... that's cold!!! First commute to work in 4 weeks. Been doing 10 milers at lunch for a workout, but 18 miles to work was a little tougher than normal today. Trying to motivate myself for the 16 miles home. Guess the best part... it is supposed be 73 this afternoon.
|
About 30 degrees this morning, no wind to speak of. I felt rather tired and slow again, probably from staying up too late last night. Saw some guys on a construction site this morning pouring concrete, in 28-30 degree weather. Seems odd because I thought it needed to be at least 40 to pour concrete. I have to wonder if the general contractor knew about it.
As of Wednesday afternoon's commute home, I have now already exceeded my February 2015 total miles and commutes, and we still have 2 weeks left in the month! |
Strange one this AM: it was dark and dry when I went to the garage to get the bike.
When I stepped outside, it was pounding rain. Halfway to work, it stopped, then started again. “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes!” The last few days have been great though and its starting to be lighter out. |
Today is International Winter Bike to Work Day. After 34 years of year around bike commuting to work here in Minneapolis, MN (now retired), I carried on the tradition to biking by biking to my Friday morning men's bible study. I took the long way home. Temp 6F with strong winds. None the less, it was beautiful with a sunny sky. That's what I love best about winter biking now that I'm retired, biking in daylight! It was bike to work in the dark, bike home in the dark. Now I call it my retirement commute, different directions each time.
|
Well I've been feeling pretty sick this AM so the wife is picking me in a bit. Only half a commute today. Darn, weather this afternoon is supposed to be really nice AND we close up a little earlier at 4 PM. Oh well, next week is supposed to get up into the 60's!
|
55 Deg.F when I left the house this morning; should be low 80's on the ride home. Metro train not too crowded today; very few bikes.
Rick / OCRR |
mornin commute 22 F. At least its not terribly cold out, though I can't wait for it to be warmer.
Not sure what the temp was this evening, but it was warm enough to turn everything into a nasty soupy mess. :notamused: |
15 miles of strong and freezing headwind. Not very fun. Hope the ride home is better. At least it didnt rain.
|
We are having a ice storm this morning, so I won't be going anywhere - by car, bike or foot. It's 23 F outside and raining. Crazy! My driveway slopes downhill to the street and it's a sheet of ice. I can't even walk down to the street.
|
I really need to fix both my commuting bikes, cause they are both down! one is just a flat tire, but I want to switch out and try some different tires, so that one flat becomes a complete tire swap. I know, easy...but it's been cold in my garage and I'm lazy. My main bike is short a crankset. I got the replacement over the weekend. I need to change the rings to my old ones (50-34 vs a 53-39). Maybe I'll do that this afternoon when I get home. But again, it's cold outside and I'm lazy. Temps will be back in the 60s later this week though, so I want to get back to ready status for it! I had my fun in the cold, got teased with spring and have been bitter since it cold again for the last 2 weeks.
