Light rain and bit cool but perfect under the Frogg poncho. Friday the 13th though was one of the worst, if not the worst, day commuting since I started. Wow it was bad...

Stepped outside thinking a lightweight long sleeve shirt would enough, but quickly decided I should go with the short sleeve + jacket instead. It was just right for the 40F start, but I got warm near the end and stopped to take off the jacket. 14 miles to start off the week.

Stomach upset from too spicy a dinner last night, not commuting by bike today but if I feel better this afternoon, I'll go for a ride after dinner.

Added benefit, avoided cycling in this morning's -2C/28F weather but can't avoid tomorrow's similar temps: Wednesday gets better.

Chilly! 35F. Jacket, toe covers, full gloves and ear protection needed in mid-May! Wtf?

At least I still wore shorts.

Chilliest commute in a while, with temps in the low 40s. My legs were very tired after driving for 6 hours yesterday and then riding my cyclocross bike for 3:15 hours after I got home. The weather is looking very sketchy for the rest of Bike to Work Week here, which is par for the course. It usually rains every BTW Day and now the curse seems to be spreading to the rest of the week! I am supposed to help out at the BTW Day event downtown on Friday, so hopefully I'll get lucky with the rain.

Beautiful morning. Sunny and very light wind.

When I got up it was 40 degrees. I went for a run. By the time I got back it was 45 degrees. Then I took a shower and got ready for work. By then it was 50 degrees. I rode my bike to work and got surprisingly sweaty. Temp seems to be rising quickly.

Should be a gorgeous day. Too bad I'll be stuck in the office for most of it.

Lovely morning for a bike ride: sunny, 11C/52F, a little breezy but nothing too arduous. I'm working from home today but did a 18.5km ride before starting. Just about got T-boned by a kid (~12yo) who was riding his bike to school and came flying off a side street. I sternly reminded him that he had the yield sign.

A very nice uneventful commute with the temp at 42f degrees this am. Yesterday afternoon's ride home was another thing though as winds were gusting up to 35 mph. Today they will not be as strong just 20 mph. That is a decrease so a win in my mind.

Right into the cold wind this morning + heavy bag = not fun! Had a flat last night.. slapped a piece of electrical tape and aired it up. Made it home at least. I'll be surprised if I don't have a flat today also.

The radar showed I was probably going to be doomed. But when I was ready to go it hadn't started yet and there was a spot of no rain just above my area. So I went for it with the idea to see how far I could get before the serious rain came. It dripped on me most of the way and only had a couple of spits of actual rain. It's raining more heavily now.

The hole before I left.

The darker green about to move in after I made it to the office.

Hah, overdressed today. It was a cool 2C/36F but sunny and I dressed like it was -10C/14F so I was hot and sweaty when I got in to work. Should be a nicer afternoon ride home in 15C/59F weather. Similar temps tomorrow and then it gets warmer towards the weekend.

Bikes: Nashbar Road

I rode my hard shell bike this morning, partly for the rainstorm and partly because a co-worker visiting from the west coast asked about it, which reminded me I hadn't ridden it in months. It is a startlingly different ride, feeling no wind at all unless I sit up and up to heavy rain doesn't really affect me physically. The hodgepodge drive train is no joy to shift and the wide tires are only decent for rougher road, but I'd forgotten how deceptively fast it feels when I get up to speed.

Lonely ride, with no one out but me and the deer.

Another beautiful morning. A bit chilly at 40 degrees, but sunny and only a 6 mph wind.

I was really tired yesterday, so last night I did the responsible thing and went to bed an hour earlier than normal. Then for some reason I woke up for two hours in the middle of the night. Not sure what that was about.

Had planned on leaving early this morning and tacking on about 10-12 extra miles. Was moving slow when I got up so I didn't get out the door as early as I'd hoped, but I still was able to ride 7 extra miles just for the fun of it.

A bit of good news: I've finally shrunk my gut to the point where I rode a significant portion of the morning in the drops, not because I was trying to avoid wind or ride fast, but simply because I was comfortable.

I'm wondering if this is really May or am I stuck in some alternate universe! Yesterday was 36F and sunny, today 50F and raining. I don't know about accumulation but I think we're on track for the most rain days in May

It doesn't feel like May here either. I thought I'd missed the spring riding due to work and other "stuff" but I'm glad for the nicer weather. There are bicycle events the next 2 Saturdays and I hope the weather holds for them. It's usually either hot and sticky or cool and damp for the first and it would be nice to have good weather then.

A nice uneventful commute this am with the temp at 50f degrees. The smell of lilacs when I ride by is so nice.

Still cool, 2C/36F, but sunny and warms up quickly. When I left home at 6:40, it was 2C/36F but now at 7:55, it is already 5C/41F.

Job interview this morning, let's see how this goes. I woke up this morning from a "nightmare" where I took my time riding in, hopped in the shower and when I went to get dressed in my "interview" clothes, I realized that I had left them at home so I had to interview in my cycling clothes. Had that happened, I couldn't have called either my son or my wife because both went to work early. However, it didn't happen and I'm actually here early enough so I could have ridden home to get them but I wouldn't have been happy about it.

Have a great day!!

Beautiful 45 degree morning. No wind, no traffic, just me, a monster drink, and my awesome bike.

Nice, though a bit humid, morning. I left early enough to add a few miles and hit 16 before reaching the office.

Ride on!

Raining again when I woke up, but most of it cleared out by the time I walked the dogs. The ride in was a bit wet, but not a problem. Glad I rode.

The flu, weather, and a half marathon have kept me off the bike for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to getting back out there. New single speed commuter has been ordered.

Total commuting fail this morning. It was raining pretty hard when I got up but the radar seemed to indicate that it would stop by the time I usually leave for work. So I prepared to ride but it started raining again really hard right when I need to leave. I changed into my work clothes and then decided to bring my touring bike into the shop today for some maintenance since I was driving anyway. That involved swapping a wheelset, tires and cassette -- which left me drenched in sweat with grimy greasy hands. So, I had to change clothes again and ended up running 30 minutes late. The only upside is that I'll be able to take the bike by the shop, which I've been needing to do.

I got to do a little AM commute today, the car needed service and the appointment was 7:00. I decided to leave the car and ride 8.5 miles back to the house to work. It's cool here this morning, around 40F, but sunny and no wind. Very enjoyable ride! I think I'm going to get into the habit of riding right away in the morning, wonderful way to start the day!

Another glorious morning. 45 degrees, sunny and a 10 mph wind. This is the 4th nice day we've had in a row, and things are looking good for the next few as well. Looks like May is starting to make up for March and April.

Went for a run, then rode my bike to work. Took the fixie today as the wind looks like it will pick up a bit the next few days.
